A bit like a dublin bus wait long enough and a few will eventually appear together. 10 Mir bubbles arrived today with another batch of 4 due next week :) .

A lot of bits to do on these and can t wait to get started.

  2. He covers a huge range of different types of modelling and dolls houses, i try to get up to him a few times a year and i know quite a few of the local lads from waterford do the same, he also offers a very good mail order service via his website.

  3. X mas 2007 in Waterford Smyths toys had bachmann digital trainsets; Byrnes had hornby trainsets and lots of hornby stock & accessories and there was the model centre with all of the above . X mas 2014 in Waterford absolutely 0 stock in.any of the shops. My bet is that the closure of Waterford crystal & other major employers in the city is the real reason.behind it

Theres quite a few of the xbox/nintendo/sega generation on here so i wouldn t put the blame solely at the door of technology.

  4. It closed about three years ago, the owners son is on this site. Mc models in New Ross is mainly radio control and aircraft kits with an odd bit of bachmann/hornby, since the closure of the waterford shop i use marks, model shop.ie and rb models.

  5. Been building this off and on for months, airfix 1/72 Rnli Severn class kit. It pushed me to the limits of my patience and modelling ability 2014-11-18 02.27.42.jpg

Its finished as 17-44 Castletownbere lifeboat and is destined for the big layout, where it ll be placed in the river behind Sallypark.

  6. Dj models kickstarter for the class 71

    £150,000 = 1200 models @ £125 each

    Converting it to euro

    €187,000 = 1200 models @€156 each.

The max order i can see for any loco is approx the 500 mark which is €374 per model

Even at an order of 750 its still €249 per loco, 1000 @ €187.

The above example has both a retailer and a model company behind it.

  7. I think going for a loco as the first attempt is a bad idea, a 4 wheel wagon would be a much better starting point, if that a success a bogie wagon and then do a loco. It might also be an idea to wait till the new year to get the funding together as the run up to xmas is a bit of a drain on the auld bobs and may effect some peoples descision.

If a loco was to interest me it d be either a 001 class or a J 26

  8. Really like the plan, for the concrete floor id use polyfilla and id also have a peco inspection pit on one or more roads . Polyfila could be used on top of regular track up to rail height. I like the idea of having a line outside of the shed and the shed really is an excellent focal point. Nice collection of 201's:tumbsup:

  9. Some of the uk lads done basically this with bachmann warship inners for their bo bo electrics and also the cl89's using bachmann cl 37's. Im pretty sure one of the lads done it too a c class on one of the old irish modelling sites.

Basically a new scratchbuilt floor would need to be built and then new bogie mounts built for the floor after that its only a matter of transplanting the motor and other bits to the new chassis. If the new dapol chassis proves to be not suitable why not use a heljan western instead?

I ve been looking to use this method to power my sulzer and a class but haven t got around to it yet.

  10. Think.it is an age thing for the most part , my main modelling era is the mid 1990's till the mid 00's as this is when i spent many a happy day watching rail movements around the network. I think it was also the last interesting era with plenty of freight , a bigger variety of locos and coaches. Plus it starts at the point were tpo's, park royals were still active. Even with all this variety the odd grey 071will get into the collection :) .

Ultimately i d like to model the 1950's based on the lost Waterford & Cork lines but until i learn the neccessary skills in loco building it ll have to wait . My interest in this era comes from hearing stories etc about the lines and growing up near the former trackbeds .

  11. There was an annual pigeon special that went to West Cork up until closure of the line in 1961 & after this went to Albert qy. There was also the Enterprise which ran too Cork for a while in the early 1950's. On a more modern note Nir railcars ran to Cork for a concert and they also operated on loan for a while, plus off course 112/113/111/8208/209 have been known to venture south over the years. Good to see you back David :)

  12. that woman has you spoilt Tom:rolleyes:

Its only to distract me from what else she bought on her retail therapy trip......., never a good idea to leave her and the eldest daughter loose in the big smoke!!!!

Usually this is the treatment that i get

  13. Freight wise the New Ross ferts ran up to New Ross as a full rake of 8 & then returned laden in rakes of 4. Over the years i ve seen a few weird rake lengths andwhats in them. For instance Cork to Cobh cravens x 2, park royal and genny, mk2's short rake Cork to Cobh. How about a grey 071 with a restaurant & egv? With both Waterfall and my other layout plan all sidings, passing loops are designed around rake sizes, Waterfall has a max rake length of a baby gm plus 4 cravens/mk2's which i feel is more than justified for a smallish station plus off course it matches various rakes that i ve seen over the years. Limerick to Ennis often ran with a baby gm/craven/gsv van.

Waterford also has a platform that is too small for some of its services :) .
