  1. Had a good look at the new releases today and was pretty impressed with all of them. 230 is now on the workbench after her long trek back from the rebel county and shes a cracker well worth the wait & price.

Think i ve done my bit with 10 mm 201's & another mystery "black box" that her ladyship picked up in the big smoke on Friday (it better be 233, goodness knows i gave enough hints :) )

If anyone needs pics of the eastern end of the line give us a shout as im regulary down in West Cork .

  3. In steam days yes they were moved on temporary track along the quay via Waterfordsouth, in later years they got civilised and used a haulage truck with the rail vechicles on skates from Waterford south to the Manor where temporary track was attached to a siding for deliveries.

layout plan mk 2 , the station is on the right and fiddle yard on the left. Trains coming from the Cork direction is at the top and the exit is at the bottom heading west. Im a little unsure about the bay/freight platform and i may ditch it before the layout is built but leave the odd hint of its former existencelike present day Thomastown. Many thanks to John for the scans of the magazine articles.

I ve also found quite a few pics in the O Dea collection on the nli website, definetly worth a look for any modeller.

  5. This is the thing 7 years ago there was fa rtr irish models, lima 201's had eventually sold out and were hitting big money on fleabay and elsewhere, now wehave decent top of the range models thanks to Mr Murphy, 141/181's rival ANY rtr model of its time, the cravens are superb, themk 2's , 071's & 201's complete the modern day diesel fleet, give the guy a chance to get the neccessary resources together for the 121's & beyond. With the economy recovering albeit slowly more and more people will start buying extra models this will clear excess stock and hopefully in the near future we can gave our 121's whizzing around our layouts while complaining about the lack of a modern a class. Till then get buying his current stock and it may come sooner rather than late, now im off too find the mrs's credit card to buy me another 201 ;)

  6. Reducing existing stock isn t really an option especially if a portion of the proceeds is going to fund another class of loco or stock. The 201's had a huge pent updemand the lima/mir/marks models options that did exist either were making huge money on ebay or required quite a lot of work to make into a model worthy of running next to a MM 141/181. So the 201 was a good option to go with in the meantime. Every retailer/manufacturer has done very well to keep there business open ovr the last few years and with a little patience we ll have an excellent 121 to add to our layouts in the not so distant future.

  7. They are hard to find online, I had on on my laptop somewhere. It was in 1996 and I think afterwards IE said never again to 201s double heading after the damage to the Cravens. 111 and 112 double headed another part of the same tour I believe.

Ah yes the yankee railtour of 3/96 :)

This is the bridge were the headshunt and running line will go over, handy spot really for the spotters as this will be the view from O Sheas pub :) . I ll be hitting the road on Saturday for a little field trip sadly the station area is of limits but i ll be looking at the other bridge that i intend to model as well as getting a few rough measurements of both bridges . I ll also be looking at the embankments and cuttings for a little inspiration. The long curved look was a must for the layout i wanted to keep straight track to a minimum on the mainline.

Was only thinking the other day of towns on the south coast that never had a railway, i can only think of a handful namely Dunmore East, Ballycotton and Kilmore .

So far the only alterations on the original plan are the addition of a bay platform, moving the signal cabin to the platform and resiting the footbridge and station building :)

Many thanks for all the kind comments

  9. I always thought that a model of Albert Quay terminus would probably be the single most fascinating layout imaginable!

Now your talking Jbh, passenger terminal, thru line, Rocksavage workshops, lots of goods facilities, dockside lines and the high level signal cabin = droolfest :-)
