The IRM supplied axles are insulated to work with the electrical pickup for the coach lighting etc. Are you planning to work without the lighting or have you an alternative solution as I am thinking your P4 axles are not insulated?

They are not insulated. I'll worry about lighting when I come to it.

... - does anyone know a builder of these types of kits who might be in a position to complete about half a dozen carriages for me, in a realistic timescale?

I think I'm in the wrong job!

Unfortunately, a lot of grounded rolling stock body owners in this country have unrealistic expectations of how much their treasures are worth!

Mystery solved. You were absolutely right David. Six bits of strapping for the bottom of the W irons.

Should've been soldered on before any folding up of the chassis and impossibly fiddly to attach now. The first one I attempted pinged off into a parallel universe somewhere and will not return. The rest have now been labelled 'not required on journey'.

I wondering how the spring carrier behind the iron is supposed to run straight if there's no allowance in the iron itself for the bearing to run up and down.... Bill generally put in an oval hole so that the bearing could be guided. It looks like he forgot to design it in here.

My understanding is that he has other commitments and will reply as he gets a chance. I last got stuff from him about 18 months ago and he replied thre and then when I emailed him.

I'll send him an e-mail anyway with the contact details of the potential customers

....As Horsetan indicated can work out expensive, especially if you use their pre-formed switch blades and crossing assemblies.

I recently offered two 7mm A5 full point kits on eBay at half the current retail price each. They contained everything including pre-formed blades and common crossings, plus gauges, and were very quickly snapped up!

Very Worsley Works - no instructions or fittings - but very much worth it. Who'd have thought etchings for something that obscure would be produced? They look good too.

Bill Bedford was notorious for not providing any instructions for most of his etches during the time when he used to run an extensive catalogue. His principle was "IOI" (It's Obvious, Innit)....which was fine if you were dealing with a pair of coach sides, but anything more complex required you to be fully familiar with the prototype or you needed to be able to think like Bill in order to understand how the smaller bits fitted in....or you needed to be the original customer who had commissioned Bill to design the etch in the first place!

I have an etch for a pair of BR Class 25 bogies, which Bill used to produce. The main structure is understandable. The cosmetic parts are far from obvious!

Kind of makes you wish it was the chocolate Aero concrete that's a ticking timebomb in so many British public buildings at the moment!

The coaches all have full pickups (and on board stayalive) for interior lighting (and head lighting on the DTs) so the axles are insulated.

I can't wait to convert these to 21mm. Big box of P4 profile coach wheels just waiting here......

They'll go well with the three Murphy RPSI Mk2s.
