  1. IE IM Showcase event 2022 On Tuesday 28th June 2022, the Iarnrod Eireann Infrastructure Manager (IEIM) held a showcase event at Portlaoise Permanent Way Depot. The purpose of the event was to demonstrate the IEIM capabilities in the areas of infrastructure maintenance and renewal, including the utilisation of new and emerging technologies to deliver a cost effective, safe and reliable infrastructure. Evening all, A bunch of photos from the weekend just gone has been uploaded to: Saturday 3rd June 2022: A view of the ongoing upgrade work to the Nenagh Branch Line between Roscrea and Cloughjordan and a visit to Portumna on the River Shannon. Sunday 5th June 2022: A visit to Limerick on Sunday evening and a trip to Ennis on a 4ICR 22012 which was an unusual working as normally only 3ICR sets can work over the route. Monday 6th June 2022: Pictures from various places between Clara and Athlone areas featuring the laden Timber from Ballina to Waterford and the XPO Liner in the other direction.   4. Friday 3rd June 2022: A lunchtime visit to the Curragh to photo the special 1010 Waterford - Inchicore Container Pocket Wagon transfer and then later in the day we see 2614 + 2617 leaving Laois Train Care Depot for Cork. Click the https://bit.ly/3Man8qE to view all.

Between the 20th and 25th April I was in the UK, spending time in London to travel and photograph the Southern Class 455 fleet before their removal from service, travel on the Highland Sleeper from London to Aberdeen to try out the new MK5 stock and spend the remainder of the trip in Scotland, mainly exploring the suburban lines around Glasgow. Other highlights include a trip on the TPE MK5's from Manchester to Leeds and a Class 91 from Leeds to London Kings Cross.   7. The April gallery kicks off with a selection of images from the past week. Friday 1st April 2022: Photos today come from Nenagh, Ballybrophy and Heuston. Saturday 4th April 2022: Photos from various locations during the RPSI East West railtour. Sunday 3rd April 2022: Just a handful of images from Heuston while heading to Thurles on the 1400 to Cork. Thursday 7th April 2022: A lunchtime visit to Clonkeen to photo 2611 + 2612 heading from Cork to Laois Traincare Depot to visit the wheellathe.   9. Photos from the RPSI: East West Railtour on Saturday 1st April 2022. Another excellent diesel tour and great to catch up with so many folks after 2 years. As usual thanks to all the RPSI and IE staff involved for making sure the tour operated to plan throughout the day despite the delays encountered which were outside the control of the RPSI. The Wanderers Photos has been updated with: - March 2022 gallery: Photos from Gorey, Killinick, Kilrane, Rosslare Europort, Wellington Bridge and Dunbrody Abbey of the Waterford - Rosslare railway. Sadly train services don't resume until the 1st April, but their shop was open selling light refreshments, taking advantage of passing trade from the Waterford Greenway which runs alongside their formation.   14. Sunday 13th February 2022: The planned Sperry Train inspection of the Nenagh Branch for the 14th February was cancelled on Saturday with the train being repathed to operate as a 1000 Portlaoise PWD - Limerick transfer on the Sunday instead via Thurles.   15. The February gallery kicks off with the following updates. Tuesday 2nd and Wednesday 3rd February 2022: Tom Walker of MKT transport photos spent two days in Dublin and kindly allowed me to use a selection of his images. Tuesday 8th February 2022: A trip into Limerick this morning meant I was able to capture some of the comings and goings at the station. Later in the day we see the latest progress of the relaying works on the Nenagh Branch. Wednesday 9th February 2022: Photos of the Sperry Train around Mullingar which was heading from Dublin's North Wall to Longford. The train is once again using the RPSI's Generating Steam Van (GSV) 3173 as IE's own van remains unavailable. Click https://bit.ly/3gR5uLz to view all the images.
  16. Saturday 29th January 2021: Photos from the Killarney area on Saturday morning showing 2614 + 2617 covering one of the ICR diagrams after 22023 had failed the previous day in Killarney. The set had been repaired overnight and was awaiting a driver to bring it to Mallow to re enter service. Later in the morning I also photographed 22019 at Minish.   18. A small update to the website this evening with pictures from this week. Wednesday 19th January 2022: While out for a walk, the 1655 Limerick - Ballybrophy arrived into Nenagh Station while I was crossing the Tyone Road Bridge. Friday 21st January 2022: 5ICR 22039 unusually spent three days working Connolly Intercity and Commuter services reaching Sligo, Newry and Rosslare Europort.   19. The January gallery has been updated with: Friday 7th January 2022: A few photos from a trip to Dublin and Cork while out for Tom Ryan's retirement. Saturday 15th January 2022: While in Killarney for the weekend, I popped out for a 2600 Class covering for a missing 22000 Class which had been sent to Heuston the previous evening in place of a failed 201 + MKIV set.   20. Tom Ryan retires. January 7th 2022 Driver Tom Ryan of Cork Depot retired from Iarnrod Eireann on the 7th January 2022 after 49 years service to the company, 40 of those as a driver based in Cork. Many of Tom's friends and colleagues came out to wish him well on his final turn of duty, 0700 Cork - Heuston and 1100 Heuston - Cork services with 222 + MKIV set 4005 with a large crowd of about 100 friends, family and colleagues at Cork to greet him on his final arrival into the city.   21. The 2021 Year in Review has just been published to the website. It's a bit smaller than previous years thanks to COVID19, but the gallery still manages to contain over 150 images of some of the happenings on the Irish railways over 2021.   22. Latest updates to the December gallery: Tuesday 7th December 2021: A midnight visit to Connolly just before the station closed saw me grabbing some photos of the stabled trains in the station. Friday 17th December 2021: 084 operated a CWR train over the Nenagh Branch today, dropping rails at Cloughjordan. I caught the train returning to Portlaoise, via Limerick passing through Nenagh. Evening all, The November gallery has been updated with: Saturday 6th November 2021: A few camera phone images from Wexford Quay of the 1755 Rosslare Europort - Connolly passing through the town along the Quay section. Friday 12th November 2021: Having some business to attend to in Limerick, I decided to take the rail replacement bus from Nenagh on Friday morning, instead of driving. Finishing earlier than expected and with some time to kill before getting the Bus Eireann route 72 bus back to Nenagh at 1425, I decided to pop out to Ennis on the 1230 from Limerick to see the ongoing work at the station to reconstruct the platforms, which will take six months to complete. After getting home in the afternoon, a parcel was waiting for me, containing one of the superb Irish Railway Models A Class locomotives. Click https://bit.ly/3Cau4iy to view.
