Allez les verts!!!!!
(For Nelson - Go the greens!!!!!)

Seriously impressive work Paul. Your work so far on the additional structures has taken the Scenecraft model to a whole new level. Can't wait to see your progress in the larger scale.

If the mods could change the thread title to something more "human" that would be nice. HLV blah blah.
Perhaps 'Steam Heating Vans for passenger trains' would be more accurate. The type of van in the photo did not have any generating capacity and was purely a steam heating van.

I am fully aware that the bar is higher than it should be, though the prototype angle does vary depending on how laden the coach is.
Changing the angle would require a complete redesign of the donor etches and a two month delay at the very least. This project had been on the long finger for four years so if I didn't build it now, it would never get done, and ergo, no irish commonwealth. And I don't see anyone else rushing to design, etch and spend 3 nights sweat soldering 1.5mm x 1.5mm brass gubbins together Well, maybe one or two, you know who you are.
The pattern is only 40mm in length, not the 160mm it appears on the scree

I will be releasing it as it is, caveat emptor, and given it is in white metal, snip the bar at one end and adjust to your heart's content. Simples.
Fair play Des. That's why I said 'small' point.

In Everard Junction's video 'Building a Model Railway - Part 2 - Planning' (
)he covers the entire baseboard in cork and then uses additional thin cork sheets to raise the track above this level. So the balast never touches the wood of the baseboard. -
741 and 748 were withdrawn due to fire and bomb damage, but were built by BREL in 1974. That being the case, presumably 1974/5 would be the earliest that the DTSOs would have come into service with NIR after 5-6 years in service with BR
Ref Irish Railways Traction & Travel, Peter Jones, 1st Ed. 1987
111 and 112 went to traffic in Feb 1981, 113 in 1984
DTSOs 741 and 748 were part of the second batch of 80-class railcar sets, ordered by NIR in 1975 and put into service 1977/78. They were built new for NIR by BREL and did not see service with BR. 741 was introduced in Jan 1978 and was withdrawn following a fire bombing at Finaghy in Sept 1979. No 748 was introduced in May 1978 and was withdrawn following a fire at Crumlin in May 1979.

Obviously before the H&S regime took over!

So - WHEN is enough "enough"?
When she who must be obeyed tells you it is! Which is usually very early in the process.

Hello all
Does anyone happen to know why NIR purchased coaches 752 and 753 from BR, along with so many other MK IIs in the '80s? In addition, is anyone aware of when the two DVTs were built?
These were 80 Class driving trailers, not Enterprise stock. DiveController has detailed their building dates. As to the 'why' part of your query - they were bought to replace 741 and 748 which were damaged during the troubles.

Congratulations John!

And it seems to be being pushed by a Metro-Vick or a Sulzer. Maybe for filming?

Placed my order in at the show yesterday. And it was nice to meet a couple of the lads behind this excellent venture.
-
Fantastic news. Wishing you the best for the new venture. I'm certain it will be a roaring success!
-
Congratulations Stephen and to all concerned with developing the new look. Excellent result.

Wow! That last pic really shows just how massive the model is. Excellent workmanship.

Fantastic model Paul.

Maedb in CIE black'n'tan
The mind boggles. Anyone up for producing a photoshop image of this?

DC, the 1st Class section of the compo would, generally, have been at the EGV end of the coach.
On the Cork line the consist on the principal trains was (from the Cork end): EGV, CityGold, Catering, 6 Standards.

Really impressive Kieran!
