Amazing stuff! Double headed NIR 111s and 201s in the first video; the transition from MkIIs to De Dietrich stock on the Enterprise along with loads of freight in the second. Many thanks to Colm O'Callaghan for taking the time to go out and record these scenes for posterity and thanks to Eiretrains for placing them on Youtube. Thanks also to 201bhoy for finding the videos and posting the link here.

Best of luck on all fronts Noel. As rebelred said, I'm sure TJ2 will be even better.

Note the caption which wrongly refers to 'New Dutch engine, Inchicore, Co. Dublin' instead of 'New Deutz engine ...'

Wills cobbled stone sheet.
Cheers Anthony. Certainly looks the biz!

Brilliant set of recent images Anthony! The shed area looks great. What did you use for the paving?

Might start a new thread on Irish 'might have beens' as I have more details on this.
Sounds interesting. Looking forward to hearing more about this subject.

If you log into the Faller website:
http://www.faller.de/App/WebObjects/XSeMIPS.woa/cms/page/pid.14.17/lg.en/Produkte.html
then select 'Track Gauges', then 'HO Selection', then 'Railway Stations Railway Buildings', then 'Railway Stations' you will find what you are looking for. There are also other types of railway buildings at the last step.
However most, if not all, of these buildings are based on German prototypes. These can be quite different to those found in Austria. German stations often are built of brick or stone, while Austrian stations, particularly rural ones were finished in yellow stucco plaster. There are a number of manufacturers of station buildings in Austria who specialise in producing models of Austrian prototypes or generic Austrian building types:

Unfortunately their products tend to be somewhat more expensive. Hope this helps.

Faller also do realistic looking backscenes. I got mine through Walter Oberle (Kinvara Train) for a similarly themed layout.

Absolutely spot on, no sitting in rush hour traffic jams, meeting deadlines, budgets, bosses, no more alarms at 7am or earlier, just relaxing & letting the World go by, having a pint or coffee at your leisure, yes retirement is the place to be, every day is a Holiday,
Yes, but you never get a day off!

Have to agree with the above comments regarding the NCE Powercab. Got one at the Glasgow show and found it quite easy to set up, even for a complete novice in the world of dcc. Had been thinking of the Lenz 100 starter set, but the Powercab's cost was less than half that of the Lenz and it got a better recomendation from the staff on the Digitrains stand.

josefstadt,
Young Sir,
The Tramway Shed on Victoria Quay was sold to Guinness after the DUTC moved their trams to Connynghame Road Depot following their acquisition of the defunct Lucan concern.
Thank you very much David. As usual, a mine of useful information! And, by the way, I like the appellation ‘Young’!

Interesting maps Noel. Never knew that there was a tramway depot on Victoria Quay.
-
Fantastic, as usual, Anthony.

Yes I did, well it was looking that way after their staggering points difference win against Italy. Never been more delighted to miscalculate probability.
At least you got the grass cut!!

Wales have won the 6N
No they haven't! Marvellous performance against Scotland then an incredible French rear guard action in Twickenham. Merci beaucoup Les Bleus!!

Video of a recent derailment in the Czech Republic:

Yes it reminds me of the dumb media who report a near miss instead of an air miss.
Indeed, it would more correctly be a 'near collision'!

Tom - any idea whats this for?

The track is to be welded here. There are no holes for the fishplate bolts so the fishplates are temporarily clamped in place. When the time comes the fishplates and clamps will be removed and the joins in the two rails will be welded together.

I sense that we will have another treat in store as Nelson brings another of his fantastic projects to fruition!

The number was carried in a data panel on the side of the tank barrel:
On the other side it was at the far end - i.e. on one side it was at the end with the small removable circular cover on the end of the tank (as in above photo), while on the opposite side it was at the end with the large access hatch. In the early days the number was prefixed with CIÉ. I don't know if in later years this changed to IR or IÉ.

Great information John. The book, A Decade of Steam on CIE in the 1950s, was published by the RPSI 1974. There is no ISBN number given. Writing about No. 59, the text also includes: 'If you want to see poetry in motion, watch out for a film "The Quiet Man" in which all the thunder is stolen by No 59. For what film star, however shapely, could hope to compare with this grand old lady?"!

No, it will be hauled by a single 201, normally 216. The other loco will be spare, for use if 216 fails or to release it for maintenance.
