I must admit I set up the sound decoder functions to suit my own preference as I found that there was a lot of sound options not used. So mine are simply as follows.
F0 - Marker lights and light master switch
F1 - Engine start up / shutdown
F2 - Horn
F3 - Drive Hold
F4 - Main headlight (F0 must be on as well)
F5 - Coupling sound effect
F6 - Rear Lights (F0 must be on as well)
F7- Coasting
F8 - Cablights
F9 - Guards Whistle
F10 - Rail squeal
I can’t be bothered with anything else.

Great videos! What decoders are you using in the 201's?
The 201’s are fitted with a Loksound Select. These decoders came in Canadian models that I purchased over the years and I just swapped them between the locos. They have all the functionality of any Loksound for lights etc but you can’t edit the sound files so no horn sound!

The Murphy 121’s have got a 21pin arrangement and the standard Loksound V5 chip will fit.
Paddy showed me this at Warley and Explained the fact that the internal circuit board had to be redesigned to accommodate this.
The original board design was scrapped after the model was assembled it was found the chip wouldn’t fit within the body! This was one of the factors that has delayed the model. Paddy was very willing to share the challenges of getting the 121’s right and I enjoyed our 5 minute chat that lasted an hour!

Hi Guys
I thought there was a mention of another run of the Ballast wagons in the near future....................
Is it still on the cards?.... and if so any rough idea when they might land .....just getting my Railway Piggy bank lined for the next while!
Thanks
Ed
I know that a couple of days ago IRM Facebook had started to canvass for interest in buying these to see if a new run was viable.

Yeah it might be worth a try.

is it an EMD645E sound file?
Yes but I am pretty sure it’s the 16 cylinder one. I found that Using the file from the larger engine gave a better howl at full throttle!

what chip/speaker combo is that? sounds different to both of mine (which sound different to each other!)
Its a free download sound file from ESU with a Irish horn style added. I just edited myself. The speaker is also upgraded from the standard one.

For some reason it’s seen as a bit of a weird hobby by many in Ireland. Yet after moving to England I found work colleagues and friends far more interested and certainly no longer viewed as the train weirdo!

Ok I can’t believe it’s so long since I posted anything! Well during our lockdown I decided to put sound in these two bad boys! Canadian railways are my second addiction!
