Here is a short video of it stopping.

I actually used EMD645 non turbo for the base sound. The brake squeal is good, I will try and get a short video of it. I installed it with the standard 40x20 speaker that comes with the 21pin decoder and just used the Murphy cradle. I was looking at installing a cube speaker but run out of patience. The sound quality is actually good enough for me and has a much better bark in "real life".

I have been working on a sound chip for the 141/181's using modified american loksound files. I have uploaded a couple of short videos onto youtube. The video quality is not great but the sounds can be heard as for some reason it won't upload in HD. Here is a link.

Really sad news and I am sure will be sorely missed by MR and all his model railroading friends.

I have just checked up and if you can get your hands on a book called "35 years of NIR" go to page 100 and you will see a photo of a twin Class 70 power car set powering the "Derry freight" on the 3rd July 1979.
-
The Class 70's definitely hauled the Derry goods back in the late 1970's. I am sadly old enough to have witnessed it. If I recall correctly it was on occasions two power cars back to back.

Nelson the layout looked fantastic. Thanks for the tip for ground cover during our chat on Saturday.

50 037 also was painted in this scheme for about a week!! It was definitely in these colours 28th March 1990.

How hard is it to remove numbers from Murphy locos for a renumbering project?

Funny I went to a retailer who has a small shop up north outside ballymena and he said he would never work with MM again after the problems retailers had with MM during his Lima days. A good bit before my step into modelling. Now my opinion I think the current batch of Loco's are some of the best looking and detailed models in the UK/Irish market I just wish Mr Murphy you would consider yes Mr Murphy consider us modellers North of the border. Your NIR Loco's 111/201's are great models to look at and run but some coaching stock to run with them would be great or even current hoppers. I mean I'm sure you's guys South would still purchase NIR stuff to
I think that ended in court so the less said the better!!

I think that the East Coast main line between London / Edinburgh recently proved the point that a company owned by the government can run a very efficient service. This company ran the service after private operator National Express almost completely ruined the service. The East Coast ran a good service but in the end was effectively privatized again even when the company ran at a profit and reduced subsidy.
A recent programme on tv was very impressed with the way the NIR system ran under government control and less subsidy than any of the operators on the Mainland UK.
