  1. Here's one of the Mk2b's converted to a 80 Class trailer in 2001 in Portrush.  Also included a photo of a typical 80 Class Easter in Portrush.  Seen as many as 11 power cars in the Port at once during the early to mid 1990's.

Looks very impressive!  I know nothing about US stock but it looks great.    👍👍👍

I’m no Canadian railroad expert but got hooked on the models after a visit to Canada in 1996. The railroads were impressive and the models light years ahead of anything available for the British market at the time.

Now of course we are spoiled with all the great Irish stuff available but the CP Rail bug is still alive so I have a little 8 foot by 18 inch shelf layout to show off the motive power.

Conversely there are many NIR 111s and 201s, not to mention silver fox and MIR kits of Hunslets with little to nothing to haul. It's always a case of "grab these now or regret it later" and so far sales have been positive. With the backlog at the factories the way we are the production run of these will be smaller than recent things we've made, so worth keeping that in mind too.

    Cheers!

I don’t think I will be taking any chances.

  4. The 201’s are an excellent match.
Here’s a couple of photos. Sorry about the quality of the NIR MV Class 104 but it gives IRM an excuse to produce a C 201 Class model and it’s just after departing Ballymena for those interested.

  5. So for all of us with MM 111’s it’s great to have stock of equal or better quality to run with them at last and I will certainly be ordering my fair share as budget dictates.

Now for those that like everything prototypically correct the bad news.
MM112 carries certain features that came along after these coaches were withdrawn.
MM113 carries the large front yellow panel that I believe again would have been painted after the coaches withdrawal.
MM111 is actually the only one that would have run with some of these coach packs in real life.
So this is an excellent opportunity for Murphy Models to get another run of 111’s done with the correct features and colours to run with these and give modellers who missed the chance to get one.

I know I can’t wait for these coaches. Never did I believe these would be available RTR. Brilliant.

Interesting to see models of SOO ex-Milwaukee Road Bandits

I came across an ex Milwaukee "Bandit" GP38-2 but did not realise what it was while visiting relative in North Dakota in 2004.

While most of the through trains were hauled by relatively new GE power in the CP Beaver scheme, way freights were worked by locos in CP Pacman & SOO line branding.

Fantastic photos especially the GP and SD40-2 one.
Just wondering would you mind if I printed it off for my layout room?

  7. I would imagine the financial risk the Warley Club is exposed too very time they run the show would terrify many of the people who attack them for not running it.
It’s the club’s decision and fair play to them for making it.

  8. Sorry to add to the cries of woe but Murphy product support has been non existent for me.
I purchased seven 121’s in total from 2 retailers.

Both contacted about broken vac pipes. Both said they couldn’t get parts return them. Kept them and contacted Murphy who then said the problem would be forwarded to the repairs guy.
3 months later still no vac pipes. Not good enough for modern day standards. I certainly has dented my confidence in Murphy Models.   I have a large number of locos but it’s concerning little support for.
By comparison, I had a 8 year old Rapido Trains LRC Loco that suddenly developed a motor fault. Contacted them three weeks ago. Motor sent free of charge and received over a week ago. Installed myself and model running like a dream.
Certainly makes me consider concentrating on North American modelling again.

    Hi Gareth,

The cutout should handle radius two curves as it's a kinematic coupling.

    Hi Patrick,

They will be shipped with one coupling fitted as per photos with the second in the accessory pack for you to install if desired. They just clip into the NEM pocket.

    Cheers!

    Fran

Thanks for the info. I always try to have 24inch radius curves as a minimum so that’s great.

Brexit has hit UK trade big time. Apparently, Ireland are now a net exporter to the UK, instead of being a net importer as they were a couple of years ago, so well done Brexit!😂

But surely it should always have been that way!  Ireland has 60Million potential customers to export to in the UK but the UK only has about 5million to export to in Ireland!

Thats a shameful position for Ireland to have been in the first place, and would make to question what the Irish goverment have been playing at in the first place!

    Who was your retailer, Hattons?
Spare parts are available as I have picked up some recently
If you buy a Bachmann loco you send it back to your retailer not Bachmann

Yes Hattons as they are my local stockists, although I have had the same problem with 121’s from Rails.

It was only 5 cab end vacuum pipes I required.

In Hattons defence their product support for the class 66’s I own has been excellent.

  12. I don’t think the QC on the 121’s is any worse than any other modern detailed locomotive. . I have 7 and the only problem I have had is delivery with the cab end vacuum pipe broken on 3, which obviously occurred due to the packaging.

I would say that I found product support for replacement parts for the broken parts to be nonexistent. Contact with Murphy and I received an email to say that they don’t deal directly with the purchaser, see your retailer.  The retailer couldn’t get any spares either. Disappointing.

Another area that could be improved is the internal packaging.  I don’t think the foam cradle idea worked particularly well on this occasion.
