Táilte Tours is heading up to Down!

We've organised a bus trip from Dublin (Connolly Luas stop) to the Downpatrick & County Down Railway on Saturday 5th August. Our ticket includes both the bus transfer and travel on DCDR steam services that day. Planned loco will be ex-Irish Sugar Company steam locomotive O&K No.3.

Dept Dublin Connolly Luas stop @ 09:45, back for 20:00.

Pick up at CityNorth Hotel (Matthews Coaches stop) at 10:05.

One of the carriages will be restored Park Royal No.1944, so a great chance to sample the real thing before IRM's hotly anticipated models arrive.

There will plenty of time in Downpatrick to travel on the steam trips, visit the Carriage Gallery and get food in the town at your leisure (and maybe even a sneaky bit of retail therapy).

30 places available, advance booking essential.

Can one assume that the bus in question is a restored / preserved KD / KC / Atlantean / Olympian?

I wish... but we're not ruling out such a possibility of that some day.

(I hear the lads involved with restoring a certain RH are very handsome ;) ).

Sorry to burst your bubble, but I'm not involved with an RH!

This ex Dublin beauty is off to the breakers this week sadly. Been a lovely reminder of home in darkest Buckinghamshire !

Poor old girl. Hopefully somebody obtains a plethora of photos before she dies, so that IRM can commission a special run of ex-Dublin buses for the UK market.

A few quick snapeens from today's ramble, including a bus for those of that persuasion.

The live tour commentary by @jhb171achill from the journey up will be available as an audiobook on download and CD. 😁

Saturday also saw our Treasurer David Walsh hand over our donation to Jonathan King, board member and fireman at the Downpatrick and County Down Railway, towards their fundraising project to restore Inchicore-built tank engine No.90. Built in 1875, once restored she will be the oldest operational engine in Ireland, and quite older than a lot of operational other engines worldwide too.

This little engine originally ran on the Castleisland Railway in Co Kerry, later spending a lot of time in West Cork. It was restored by the former Westrail Tuam group in the late 1980s and operated in on the Tuam-Athenry line among others. It moved to Downpatrick in the 2000s and after a number of years on static display her return steam is once again on the horizon.

In addition to the donation, Táilte Tours will also be assisting with another aspect of the 90 fundraising campaign in due course...
