Has anybody got any knowledge of when No.81 "CARRICKFERGUS CASTLE" was put into use on the Derry Road? I'm guessing it was post GNR(I) era and UTA.

Actually more likely to be c1950. That’s certainly when it was on the Irish North. Didn’t know it was on Derry Road - wonder if its frames were up to it! Had same sort of power as a Q.

Apologies, I have just noticed the photo is dated 14th May 1952 and it is the Derry to Belfast service it is hauling.

No. 81  Carrickfergus Castle was hired by the GN on 1st May 1952, until replaced by no 72 on 12th March 1954 which stayed until 29th September 1954, working mostly Belfast to Clones.
