irishrail201 Posted June 18, 2013 Posted June 18, 2013 It's not up to CIE/IE to preserve anything, but maybe offering 6111 to a (responsible) interested party or else put it out of its misery. From the CIE's own website : "C I É is committed to safeguarding the treasures of the past for future generations. The Centre, planned for a location on the Company’s railway system, will also offer a secure base for exhibits in private ownership. The National Transport Collection will include facilities for the enthusiast groups who are doing such a magnificent job in maintaining and running preserved trains, buses and other vehicles from a bygone era. Locomotives, rolling stock, road motor vehicles and associated artefacts are being recovered and restored for future display. It is intended that this work will encourage strong community involvement through Government-assisted schemes and will allow the public to view restoration projects in progress. Skills in danger of being lost to modern technology will be preserved." out of date perhaps?? Quote
jhb171achill Posted June 19, 2013 Posted June 19, 2013 Sadly, this is totally out of date, and totally off the wall for the times they live in now! Quote
Southern Yard Posted July 7, 2013 Posted July 7, 2013 A significant gathering is taking place at the NRM in york at present. Here's a few shots from yesterday. Huge crowds turned out and the 6 A4's looked great lined up in the Great Hall. The model exhibition wasn't bad either and attracted a lot of favourable comments. Quote
ttc0169 Posted July 7, 2013 Posted July 7, 2013 Yes-it sure was a fantastic day out an excellent exhibition and museum which I will look forward to going back to in the future. Quote
