spudfan Posted 22 hours ago Posted 22 hours ago (edited) Watching "Where Eagles Dare" recently, Richard Burton and the boys were going through a railway yard. On one of the walls "LSR" was painted in big letters. I wondered whether that had anything to do with the Lough Swilly Railway. Seems they were a bigger outfit than I thought. Mayner Posted 1 hour ago Posted 1 hour ago I remember seeing a "Lough Swilly"  branded artic heading South on the M6 through the West Midlands during the late 80s. Not sure if the tractor & refrigerated trailer was branded "Lough Swilly Transport" or "Lough Swilly Freight" . But nice to imagine the Swilly was shipping fish direct from Donegal to the Billingsgate Market. Regularly drove the M1/M6 between London, Wales and North during late 80s-early 90s, one and only time I saw a Lough Swilly truck 1
airfixfan Posted 3 minutes ago Posted 3 minutes ago The Swilly operated their own passenger and road freight services for over 50 years after they closed rail servicrs in August 1953. 1
