  1. If your layout is permanent I do what Shinkansen said, clamp them together and drill and bolt, they will never move. Stay away from the pattern maker dowels it is very hard to align them perfectly.

I now use hardwood dowels and drill the frames with a boring machine, that gives me perfect alignment every time. My old exhibition baseboard had them and they never wore down after a year and a half of constant use.

If your planning to take it apart the odd time, clamp the frame then drill 8mm holes and fit hardwood dowels, then drill and bolt them together.

  2. Hi train model, No defo not getting out in for the long haul.. Its at its best now I think, thanks to a Mr Murphy. I have Dave building me a layout It will be in 3 sections for easy set up and storage as I do not have a place to do a full layout, So hoping to get that soon, hint hint Dave if reading lol.... so looking forward to actually running a few trains at last! but no just sorting out bits and bobs I do not need anymore..

    Yes I'm reading it!

  3. I use 4 core alarm cable for the droppers from the rail, I just strip the red and black out and its cheap to buy just €12, for a 100 mtr roll. For the bus I use .75 control panel flex, a 100 mtr roll is €14. You will need a roll of red and black.

Go to an electrical wholesaler, stay away from B&Q and Woodies their a rip off.

Solder every joint and make sure your droppers are no more than 2 mtrs apart.
