  1. Boys and girls

Just home after a couple of shandies and I came across this thread

I was talking to a friend earlier who was in contact with PM about another matter

He tells me that PM has just returned from the Far East

He would not give any specific details but I reckon you should start saving your shillings for next year!

    Just saying like PIMP

    Nice one ;)

Im updating the 201's and going with a mostly murphy models fleet. To replace my mir 204 i set about renumbering a 220 to its new identity as 204 River Barrow. To remove the old numbers i used cotton buds with a little white spirits, then i used a little klear to help with the new decals. I used ssm nameplates and a mix of ssm & old mir numbers as i had them too hand. To seal in the decals i used another coat of klear.

  3. Clearing out a little bit from the stock vault.

Model Irish Railways 204 fitted with a bachmann class 66 chassis. The loco is in the original orange livery & has been fitted with ssm 201 wipers . Can be sent in either the original mir box or a bachmann cl 66 box. €100 plus postage.

Murphy Models 177 front end details and roof aerials fitted, boxed. With dcc chip €115 or without for €105 plus postage.

  4. Nice one lads for the comments

Ive recently started to dirty up my own stock, the first off the bench is 183 in IR livery, made up a wash of black paint and used q tips in a downward motion to clean off most of the paint. I also added a little buffer grease and a few other bits.20150610_012642.jpg

  5. There's a greenway 'mania' right, fair enough some alignments will never ever open again either as a commercial or a preserved line (case in point, the North Kerry GST started out as a preservation group until road improvements chopped it in two) so it would be preferable that a disused line that has no hope of opening again have some afterlife and be of some use to the community rather than having big trees growing up through it. Having said that some of these groups seem to be losing the run of themselves.

    Explain Youghal then

  6. IEs agreement with the NTA for 'mothballing' involves a programme of inspection and maintenance to ensure the Barrow Viaduct does not become a hazard to shipping, managing the liability risk for IE (securely fenced, bridges and level crossings not a hazard to the users) and weed killing to keep the line clear for ail traffic until the track became unsafe for rail traffic.

The agreement does not appear include sleeper or level crossing barrier replacement and IEs proposal discussed using tie bars to maintain the gauge until sleeper decay became a significant problem.

I suppose the message is to get out there and record any train or inspection movements over the line while there is still a chance, whats happening on the South Wexford is not radically different to Mullingar-Athlone in the early 1990s by 1996 the line was unfit for rail traffic.

No need to look that far away for an example of the "care & maintenence" program the neighbouring New Ross & Ballinacourty lines when t the same way, annual weedspray until theres a problem and then abandonment till the walky groups want a new place to walk their dogs.
