  1. This project will not fly. Another Boards thread here: http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?p=88567183
  2. That story's been doing the rounds for decades - Woodbrook was mentioned but I can't see where it would have gone. In other news the IRRS preserved the whistle!!

This pic appears in an early edition of the IRRS Journal or it could have been Wally McGrath's "Some Industrial Rlys" book but all the others were very interesting. When I was a railway enthusiast.....well the Clifden line was my first love.... nearly persuaded my Granny to buy Ballynahinch Station back in the late 1970s.

Thanks for the information and I'll pass it on to the party concerned.
  5. Will throw in these two badges FREE with the Hill of Howth book. Both are in mint condition. The IE one is perfect - my camera just highlighted finger marks!

Hi All, I was asked by a friend - yes, I still have one - to help identify the locomotive below. Sorry for the poor quality - photo of a poor photo. The only identification mark is 5 on the side of the loco. Any information gratefully received.
  7. Very sorry guys - I just sold it on Adverts.ie - needs must when the devil (Paddy Power) drives.
  8. Official GNR map dated 1876. A rare survivor from the early years of railways in Ireland. Canvas backed. 13.5 inches x 10 inches. Map shows the railways before the line extended north of Tuam, no Clifden line and the Parsonstown & Portumna Bridge line is there too! Some wear to one corner but will be unnoticeable once framed. Will be sent by registered mail. Price of €50 includes registered mail. Hurry if interested as it's going on Adverts.ie later.
  9. Sorry, it's gone since June, I should have marked it sold.

  15. Here's another of Curran's idealised visions of CIE's trains which appears on a recent postcard.
  16. Oh dear, what a mess and to think that somebody obviously spent money on getting this made. Where is 'Lough Hee' between Claremorris and Galway - or is that how the translator in India/China or wherever spells Loughrea? And, where on earth is the New Castle listed on the board under Kilkee?

In mint condition internally - except for the remains of a tiny price sticker inside the front cover and the name (!) of the bookshop in biro. Does not in any way detract from the book. Back cover has a couple of very slight dinges. Rare in any condition - especially at this price. SOLD!! I also have nine issues of "Narrow Gauge News", the newsletter of the Narrow Gauge Rly Society, for sale. Issues date from 1986 -1997 and contain items of Irish interest. 20. Working Timetable on its way to Australia. That just leaves the 'See Ireland By Train" timetable.
  21. The two books are gone which just leaves the Thro' Rare West Kerry guidebook.
  22. Three interesting and scarce Tralee & Dingle titles looking for a good home. 1) The classic history of the T&D by Pat Whitehouse - hard to get in any condition and this one is in virtually unread condition with an intact dustwrapper. 2) The more recent and, almost as scarce, "The Dingle Train" by Walter McGrath, David Rowlands and Tom Francis - also in very good condition. 3) The ultra-rare 1987 reprint of the 1911 official T&D guidebook (36 pages + cover). Pics below. All offers will be entertained. Can be dropped off in central Dublin but otherwise will be by registered mail or collection.
  23. The second copy is now sold to Killucan2. I also have the two timetables (below) for sale. €25.00 - includes p+p on the island of Ireland. 1950s Working Timetables are increasingly hard to find and this one is in good internal condition with an age worn cover. Lots of interesting lines including: Waterford & Tramore; West Clare and Cavan & Leitrim as well as a plethora of long gone minor branchlines - Tullow, Cashel etc.
