  1. Second and final copy of this book now for sale - nice clean copy but ex.library and the library card is stuck down on the first page. €20 includes p+p on the island of Ireland or delivery to central Dublin i.e. adjacent to Connolly Station for collection.
  2. Railways in Ireland 1834-1984. By Oliver Doyle & Stephen Hirsch. Signal Press, 1983, 204 pages, 6 maps, more than 80 illustrations. Hardcover with good dustwrapper. Nice clean interior but slight dinge to top right corner of some pages – makes no material difference to book and you won’t be disappointed. A thorough, well illustrated study of the origin and development of the diverse 'standard', (5ft 3inch) and narrow gauge lines within Ireland. €22 includes FREE p+p on island of Ireland plus a bonus (?) item a brand new copy of Transport Preservation in Ireland 2005. Book can left for collection adjacent to Connolly Station or collected from Enniscorthy, in which case the price will be €20.
  3. Well, thanks for all the feedback - even the off topic stuff - but it surely is a disgrace that the Fry Model Railway appears to have disappeared into oblivion. Those in authority in this country couldn't run a proverbial piss-up in a brewery. By the way, saying that times were hard in the 1950s/60s is just a cop-out, as back then people with some wit were simply suggesting that certain items be put aside in various empty sheds pending sufficient funding etc. being found to provide a proper museum. Nobody was listening then just as nobody is listening now.
  4. Negatives taken along the Harcourt Street line circa 1980 - long before the Luas was contemplated. Two prints shown here (for quality) are of Foxrock Station and a footbridge near Churchtown which somehow survived the closure. Other negatives show Harcourt Street Station, the abutment of the old Grand Canal bridge at Charlemont, the junction at Dundrum, Stillorgan and Carrickmines Stations, and the Brides Glen viaduct taken from the road. Interesting set (14 negatives with copyright) First 30 Euros secures - includes p+p on island of Ireland.
  5. Sorry to drag up this 'zombie' thread again but is there any fresh news as regards the fate of the Fry Model Railway + artefacts?
  6. Derek Runacres Classic Photography, 6 Church St. Cahir Co. Tipperary (052) 42044 The above photographer has/had a fine set of negatives of the 1955 accident and would probably still run off copies - for a price.
  7. Last two - for today! Transport Preservation in Ireland 2005 Guidebook 54 pages, illustrated with colour and b/w photographs. Also included is the illusive, 12 page, 2007 supplement. Both in unread condition. Plus an unusual 1974 CIE Mainline Rail passenger train timetable. €12 including postage on island of Ireland or pick-up from County Wexford €10.
  8. A couple of more items. Shane's Castle Railway Guidebook 58 pages plus card cover. Guide to the now closed 3ft gauge Shane's Castle Railway in County Antrim. Details of locomotives and rolling stock as well as history of Shane's Castle. Good overall condition with a slight mark on two pages. €5 including p+p to anywhere on island of Ireland. How to build a Train - Edwardian (?) kit (complete) An unusual wooden kit which, when assembled, builds into a steam locomotive and tender. All the pieces are there. A heavy item which I'm reluctant to post but can be collected or delivered to Central Dublin (Dublin City Centre rail terminals)or picked up in County Wexford. Offers in region of €50
  9. Some other bits and bobs for sale. The 3:10 to Claremorris DVD (150 mins) NEW. In a time of hardship and uncertainty, a community is denied a railway by the powers that be, tired with the bureaucracy and corruption the community turns to seven mercenaries to get the job done using their own methods….but as Sean, their reluctant leader with a dark past, will discover there are vested interests in keeping the Sligo – Claremorris line closed; the Seven will face danger and Peril at every turn, as they attempt to build the railway in time for the 3:10 to Claremorris…. Suffice to say you will never have seen anything like it! This is a mint, unplayed DVD, I bought two copies from the Director and I'm letting one go for €10 - a 50% saving and you won't find this DVD in the shops or online. More here: http://laighnefilms.com/films/the-3-10-to-claremorris/ €10 includes FREE p+p on island of Ireland. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- An interesting selection of RARE Irish railway and other Irish transport tickets including: a ticket for the long closed TMSI Depot at Castleruddery, Co.Wicklow and three prototype tickets - unissued - for the reopened Cavan & Leitrim Railway. Offers in the region of €15 incl.p+p will be entertained.
  10. Poor old 2159 aka 1633 CIE compo 1st/standard built 1954 and purchased by the Great Southern Railway Preservation Society (GSRPS) in 1984. Restored at Mallow and used on the "Sea Breezes Express" to Youghal on the 6th July 1985 - its only revenue earning trip in GSRPS ownership. After the break-up of the GSRPS the carriage was lent/sold to Westrail as a replacement for some of its stock destroyed in an arson attack. Its current good appearance is probably deceptive and I imagine, from previous experience, that water is flying in along all of the roof seams and destroying the carriage from the inside out. Carriages need to live undercover and 2159 has no future in Dunsandle. As for E428 - it would make you weep! E428 at Claremorris on the "Balligo Divider" railtour on the 3rd April 1988. http://www.irishtractiongroup.com/previous_locos.htm
