  1. Turns out it's a Hornby class 73 DCC ready so of with the body (fingers crossed) and in with a chip. Ta, Wiggy.
  2. Thanks Ger, But that looks like a DCC ready loco. If i could find out where the + & - to the motor are then I could try that. I'm not sure but I think the 2 wires that go to the capacitor are the + & - but its that circuit board I'm not sure about. Thanks, Wiggy.
  3. Anyone converted a Silverfox NIR 106 from DC to DCC.? Not sure what the donor loco is, either a class 22,29 or 73 but I think they are all the same. I've removed the non driving pickup bogie and there's 2 wires coming from it so obversely it picks up from both tracks. I've removed the driving bogie and there is one wire from the axle pickup on one side. This pickup wire then goes back towards the rear of the loco. I am assuming that there is a circuit board in the body that my have been used to work a head lighting board.(yes can see it when I pull the wires) Then from the rear of the loco comes another 3 wires. 2 go to a capacitor and the other goes to a axle pickup on the motor bogie which is a bit strange as that side of the axle has traction tyres on. All wires are Black so no help there. I've taken some photo's to help. Anyone done one.? Might end up cutting the wires and pulling out the circuit board to see what it dose unless anyone has a Hornby class 22,29 or 73 with a body removed. Thanks, Wiggy.
  4. Just started to use some Kadee's on my freight wagons where I need to either split the train or uncouple the train. I am using 17,18 & 19 Kadee's. I am also using the Kadee uncoupler plate think it's 321. My problem is that the Kadee is either not uncoupling over the magnet or when I go to couple up they are not connecting. I do the usual backwards and forwards over the magnet but they don't seam to spring apart very often so I spend all my time going backwards and forwards over the magnet. Anyone have the same problem.?? The couplings on the loco are not to bad but the wagons are a pain. Just wondering if it is the fitting on the Dapol wagon where the Kadee fits into it seems to move slightly to one side. Does the fitting where the Kadee fits need to be solid I wonder. Anyone had the same problem. Ta, Wiggy.
  5. Just noticed something after all these years re the"set of points" logo on a Craven. Have a look at my volume one video and look carefully at the Craven at 11 seconds in. http://irishrailwaymodeller.com/showthread.php/464-Irish-Railways-Volume-1 Wiggy.
  6. I had one of those and they had sticky back fine sand paper strips on, is that the one you are thinking of??
  7. Any one used one of these. HO gauge from Lima and Hornby.(check out Hattons web site) There's no feed for cleaning fluid so not sure if it's dry cleaning Just bought 2 but just need to know if anyone else had one and any tips on cleaning fluid. It would have to be applied direct to the cleaning pad which is sort of a slight abrasive texture. Ta, Wiggy.
  8. OK, We now know that the loco is fine so it's the chip or the wrong combination of buttons pressed on the Lenz 90 I only have the Lenz 100 but I looked in the Lenz 90 manual and found this. "Shift" key: when you press this key, the numbers and symbols in smaller print on the other keys become active. This key is comparable to the "Shift" key on a typewriter or computer. It also, ESC key. Function 0 on/off. Function 0 is used by most decoders for the front lighting which is dependent on the direction of motion. If the "shift" key has been pressed, then this key is used to scroll through the menus These 4 keys are used to switch functions of the locomotive decoder. The large number is the primary number and the small number is the shifted number. With the decoder chip in try the shift and function buttons to see if anything works as the chip may not work with the first 3-4 function buttons. I know on mine F4 does not work but F5 does so try that. Not sure where abouts in the world you are but see if someone near you can run your loco for you. Failing that send your chip to me and I can test it in one of mine. (just a thought) Wiggy.
  9. Hi Larry, If you remove the MM chip and refit the supplied chip (blank), do all the lights come on when the loco is on the track.?? What functions are you trying to get to work.?? I assume you are trying to get the head/tail lights to work. Do you have any other chip fitted loco's that work with the Lenz 90 and have you read the Lenz 90 manual. We need to make sure that the Lenz is working OK as well. Wiggy.
  10. Hi Signal and welcome to the forum. If I can help I will. I have the Lenz 100 which is the next stage up from yours. I assume you have the Lenz instruction booklet with it. First, have you assigned an address for your loco's or are you on the default address 3 ?? If you are using address 3 then change it to something else (perhaps the number of the loco i.e. 201 or what ever the loco number is.) and try the function again. Let me know how you get on. Wiggy.
  11. Check out this video from Dave.
  12. 2-3 years ago, I was on Connolly station on the DART platforms 5,6 & 7 I think, but anyway, a 29000 unit came into the platform empty stock. It had come from platform 1. As it came into the platform it was trailing behind it the fuel hose it had ripped out of the wall at the side of the carriage shed. I went to the station masters office and told him what I had seen. Next thing I see the driver looking out of his cab, then getting out to look at the hose and trying to get the nozzle out of the tank. Then the shed master in his white coat came across with a big hammer to get the nozzle out. The ironic thing about this is that I had my video camera and stills camera but was so engrossed in what was going on that I never took any photo's or video. Wiggy.
  13. Hi Dave, Glad you received your items. Yes you can make some savings by shopping around. Depending on what else you bought from Rails, Hattons do the 1 box SL102 for £54.00 + p&p. I all ways compare the 2 (Hattons & Rails) some items are cheeper at Hattons than rails then visa versa. Just lately because I prefer Rails, I have found items cheeper at Hattons, then called Rails and Rails have priced matched Hattons so long as Hattons have them in stock. I do, do a lot with Rails, all my Irish stuff, loco's and coaches are from rails including the Lima 201's when they first came out. Over £1500.00 worth of 141/181's, plus the 201's and 071's. Track, points, buildings etc all mainly from Rails. Had the odd items from Hattons but got ripped off with postage when they sent am order with out of stock items missing then sent the out of stock items on when in stock and charged me p&p again. If items are out of stock at Rails they don't charge me again for sending them on when in stock. Not sure if they would do that to Ireland. Plus if anything wrong with an item they change it on questions. Hattons would not change 2 faulty Dapol signals I had from them. I sent them back to Dapol and they changed them for me. Sorry but I don't rate Hattons at all. Wiggy.
