  1. All packages have now arrived except for an unregistered package sent by an IOSS registered company Hattons from Liverpool of Sept 17th.

No way of tracking that so no idea where it is in the system.

No reason why a package from an IOSS registered company should be held up but we are dealing with An Post here ?

You could just not make this up! What a bunch of cowboys in Dublin 12 sorting office. They obviously do not know their left hand from their right hand.  Just had two emails/text messages to pay customs charge. thought it strange as not got anything on order apart from two items previously mentioned that are supposed to be sent back. Out of curiosity I put the details in Anpost web site and the items are going to be returned to Hattons, which  I would like to see how they are going to do that as I have the items here which were delivered with no issues at all back in August.

This Customs Charge has expired on 29 Aug 2021
The time period for paying the Customs Charge for the below item has lapsed and the item has been returned to HATTONS MODEL RAILWAYS. There is no longer a charge due for this item.

    Customs reference number:

    21IEDUB500274QFHR3

    Description:

BLUE CIRCLE PCA WAGON - PRE-OW

At this stage Dublin 12 Mails Centre might just as well be in outer Mongolia 🙄

People getting packages without paying any Vat, people paying Vat & not getting their packages & people being told their packages are being sent back when they've already been delivered.

They're just making it up as they go along.

An Post are getting huge flack from all quarters for their handling of this.

  3. Things are going from one extreme to the other.

The UK retailer sent out a replacement order for the original package which I was told had failed the Customs scan & has been sitting in Dublin since Sept 17th. I paid the charges on this replacement package on Tuesday.

This morning a package was delivered but it was the original package which was supposed to be sent back to the UK. I didn't pay any charges at all on this package.

It seems An Post are just dealing with the backlog by just delivering the post without checking it at all 🙄

I can't complain I suppose as it saved me €26 but its still crazy 😄

  4. You couldn't make this up if you tried.

It now appears that the missing package hasn't been scanned at all 🙄

An Post is like Faulty Towers, without the comedy but with Manuel in charge.

Please accept our apologies for the delay in responding to your query This item RN764173586GB appears to be in a clearance delay providing all is ok with the customs data this will be released for delivery Unfortunately, I cannot advise on a clearance date. My advice for now would be to keep an eye on our tracking over the coming days, all tracking will be available on our track&trace when this item is cleared and accepted into our network for processing and delivery. I am sorry for the inconveniences caused and I hope this information was helpful!

  5. Dublin Mails Center is the black hole of the Postal System.

In fact the whole An Post system is a black hole with zero responsibility & zero accountability 😡

I'd love to know whose responsibility it is to decide what duties to apply on a parcel that comes in with no or insufficient paperwork then.

No one, it just gets sent back I'd say.

  7. I have spoken to a customs officer 0n 01 7383685 picking the An Post option which I think is number 6.

They told me that anything to do scanning & collecting Duty or VAT on incoming mail is purely down to An Post & they (Customs) wouldn't be involved at all.

They said that An Post have been contracted to do this & receive a fee for each item.

So we know who to blame 😡

  8. Below is the message I received from An Post this morning. The declarations attached to both my packages were exactly the same. The first one was stopped but the second package will be delivered in a couple of days. It seems to depend on who looks at your package 🙄 What's happening seems very haphazard. Who are "they" & who exactly is looking at these packages?

    HI Tony,
Apologies for the delayed response. Checking the tracking on the item RN764173590GB, it appears to have been cleared for delivery last night and is currently being processed to be sent down to the delivery office today. I would expect you should have it in the next day or two.
It appears that RN764173586GB is in a clearance delay I'm afraid. This delay would be due to the volume of items that would have been received over the last few weeks and they are working from a backlog and are behind on handing items back to us.
According to our system there was no electronic customs declaration provided electronically by the sender. As we cannot amend or rectify any electronic customs data, the item may be returned as a result to the sender. Items now do require both an electronic and physical copy of the customs declaration form to be provided. If the physical declaration is found sufficient by itself and the item is cleared, it would be handed back to us and will get an updated scan to say it has been sorted in our Parcel Hub and it will then be delivered soon afterwards from the local delivery office. For now just keep an eye on the tracking Apologies for the inconvenience this may have caused.

im know sending a lot of my deliveries and ebay wins via northern ireland using the click and collect system for centa or argos working a treat so far just means a trip every so often a bonus

That's a great way to do it if you live within a reasonable distance from NI.

More or less what out local postie has said.  Apparently anything that does not fit the customs description is put into a crate to be sent back only when it is full!! So our parcels may well be sitting in Dublin 12!   Just checked for updates on mine and the tracking shows mine is still there.

    Regards,  John

Customs clearance have identified a problem with the customs declaration accompanying your item. As such, the item must be returned to the sender.

This is an email I had from Anpsot in response to the email that I sent them on 10th September!   They have not even made any effort to resolve any issues or reply to my enquiries.  It seems from others who have been in contact with them they have been trained/programmed to just say the same excuse to everyone!

One on my local TD's is looking into this, so will see what happens.

    "Dear Customer

We apologise that that due to high volume of enquiries in recent weeks, we have been unable to respond within the normal timeframe.  We regret any inconvenience this may have caused you.

If your query has since been resolved to your satisfaction, there is no need to respond to this email. If we don’t hear back from you, we will close your enquiry.

If your query has not been resolved and relates to Customs or Customs Payments, please see below for further information.

If your query does not concern Customs, please reply by email so that we can answer your enquiry directly.

    Customs/Customs Payments:

    • If your enquiry relates to an item coming from a country outside of the European Union(EU), including the United Kingdom, the following information may help:
Due to EU Customs rules, charges apply when you buy goods outside of the EU. The EU Customs regulations have been expanded since July 1st this year. Customs charges are collected by An Post on behalf of Irish Revenue once Irish Customs have determined what tariffs are to be paid.
    • If you have checked the status of an inbound item using our online Track & Trace facility, and your item is shown to have been ‘Returned to Sender’, this is due to one of the following reasons:
      • The customs charge wasn't paid on time. Customers are notified of EU customs charges by text/email/post and given 16 days to pay securely online or at their local post office. The required customs declaration made by the Sender was insufficient or invalid according to Customs regulations.  Under EU Customs regulations, retailers (or other senders) must provide electronic customs declaration data for every items being posted into the EU.  More information on these requirements can be found under the  ‘Sending to Ireland from non-EU countries’ section on anpost.com/sending. Unfortunately, An Post cannot amend customs declaration data, so items arriving into Ireland with incomplete data have to be returned.
      • The item (or some of the goods) being sent to you are prohibited or restricted under EU Customs rules.  Restricted goods require detailed advance electronic declarations for each item.  Prohibited goods are not allowed into the EU. For more information, visit the Revenue website
      • If your item is shown to have been ‘Returned to Sender’ despite you having already paid the  requested customs charge through An Post, please email ecommchargequery@anpost.ie to request a refund of your payment.

If your customs query remains unresolved, and you need further information, please respond to this email and let us know.

Once again, we apologise for any inconvenience caused and we hope that this information is useful. Please see anpost.com/customs for further information.
    Kind regards,

    An Post Customer Contact Centre"

    The usual blah blah so.

I've emailed so many Td's & Ministers at this point I feel I know them personally.

Too lazy to do the job properly. My local post office clerk reckons they are just taking the easy way out.

    Tony.
