  1. My Hattons package arrived today with the postman. Just regular international priority postage @ £5.

No communications from Irish Customs about it.

The customs declaration had a bar code  UY---------GB

This number & bar code was also on the postal label with a little IOSS in one corner.

I presume that this code gave customs all the information they needed.

I've thought that for a while but I saw that IOSS logo on the last Hattons parcel which I presume means the VAT has been paid to the EU. The parcel wasn't stopped. I don't order much from them but I will keep an eye on the next one whenever that may be.

According to An Post the parcel should have a TARIC code to enable it to be electronically scanned.

A suitable code for toy trains imports from GB is 9503009990

I'll see what happens my parcel when it arrives.

  3. This is the reply I've just had from Hattons.

I think Hattons are taking the chance that some packages will get stopped & others will get through.

So basically its totally hit & miss 🙄

    Thank you for your email.

As we have VAT registration for the republic of Ireland, Vat is paid at the time of purchase with us and after that, no other charges should occur. With the new government guidelines in place Republic of Ireland fall under DDP (delivered duties paid). If any further charges should occur with this order please do get back in touch with us and we will look into this for you.

I hope this helps. If there is anything else that I can help you with please do not hesitate to get back in touch.

  4. Anyone still having problems with Hattons ?

I just bought a RTR item & was charged the UK vat rate on the item.

I've sent them a message about it & await a reply.

So you buy a new mattress,
You leave it propped up outside against the picnic bench to air out after being in storage.
You look out the kitchen window and see the local tom cat walking across the yard stopping to mark his territory...on your new mattress.

You go out & do the same.

    That'll sort him 😉

  6. I remember in the early seventies myself & a mate coming in on the Liverpool ferry one morning.
Gave the Taxi man an extra few bob if he could make the first train to Cork out of Heuston.
I never though a car could move so fast through Dublin 😄
Had the full Irish in the dining car on the way down.
What a way to come home 😊

Haven't travelled by train in years now.

    Hi Tony,

Sadly not. The Crossley engine is proving to be elusive for us at the moment with everything that's been going on in the world, but we are still determined to get it. Hopefully soon.

    Cheers!

    Fran

What livery would these locos have carried when the engines were changed from the Crossley ?

    Thanks.

    Tony.

    Hi everyone,

Not sure if this was shared previously, but Andy York of BRM magazine has taken a look at the As and given his verdict on how they perform. Check out his video here.

    Cheers!

    Fran

I hope AY is on commission because if that video doesn't sell more locos then nothing will 👍

Beautiful loco & the sound is something else.

Looking forward to my A1 now.

    Hi @Ironroad,

    1. A rerun is a new announcement, as is a bus. So we have made new announcements this year already.

    2. There is still one third of 2021 one left, and there will be announcements (including announcements of all new tooling) within the one third of the year left.

We now announce things when they are ready to be announced. That's when the "raising of the curtain" will occur. As Murphaph states above, a lot has been happening in 2021 which has hindered all model making companies. All the major UK manufacturers have announced delays which demonstrate this. Despite this, our lovely shiny new A Classes are almost there, as are Taras. There's a lot to be excited about from IRM in the coming weeks and there will be more frothiness thereafter too.

    Cheers!

    Fran

You got a new cappuccino machine 😋

Just had another email for customs duty on another low value item I ordered from Hatton's.  An Post and Irish customs are a right PITA!!!!  When you try to speak to them they just fob you off with feeble excuses.

Sometimes makes me wonder if its worth bothering with railway modelling anymore.

    Irish Customs are the problem.

Takes me back to the seventies.

Like dealing with a sloth trying to deal with customs & their new found power 🙄

  11. Perhaps a customer who has bought from Hattons without any problems might comment on this.

Has anyone bought from Rails of Sheffield & how did you get on.

It seems like total confusion at the moment.

  12. I contacted Hatton's about Vat being charged twice etc & here is the reply I received.

"We're unaware of this sort of issue with orders to Ireland/Southern Ireland being charged for VAT twice but whilst places are still adjusting to the new systems that have been put into place, so sometimes issues may occur and orders can slip through the cracks.

If you place an order with us and this does happen, if you get back in touch with us we will sort this out for you straight away.

I hope this puts you at ease a little and if you have any questions please do not hesitate to get back in touch with us."

    amdaley, yes - exactly!!

A retrograde step. Thank you, Brexit…..!

Well, at least the Rails and Hattons staff (not their fault!) have bloooo passports……

Serious point; some of us are fortunate enough to have relatives or friends in the north or Britain. We would do well to research costs depending on where we’re ordering stuff, or the policy of the supplier.

I will be tormenting Relative In Wales, who can bring things over when visiting.

    Lucky you.

I wonder would they bring stuff over for the rest of us for a small consideration 😉
