£23 is the lowest price, it’s goes up in small increments as the weight increases..

I got a loco, a coach, some containers and a few diecasts sent over and it was £28 for 3-4kgs..

Used to be £17 but had increased the last time I looked.

Hattond had lots of stuff returned back to them over documentation problems. Probably AnPost again.

Brexit has really messed things up for modellers in Ireland.

Standard craic on almost anything that is coming out of the UK now, they didnt say out loud that this was one of the effects of the B thing.

Get it send to friends in Norn Iron or use one of the parcels forwarding services (but not address pal), most UK retailers wont care, Ireland and overseas is less than 5% of their mail order output. Hattons so far is one of the few to set up for Irish customers

UPS have always been like that, Brexit or not.

I avoid them like the plague but got caught this time because Locomotion didn't say they were using them.

  3. Heads up to anyone ordering anything from locomotion Models.

When I ordered a loco I paid £20 Delivery only to be charged a further €20 by courier UPS as brokerage fees  ?. This brought the Total Carriage price to over £37.50 which is excessive by some margin.

If I had known they were using UPS I wouldn't have ordered the item at all.

Further I will be ordering no further items from Locomotion Models as long as they continue to use UPS which is a complete rip off.

I would find it very surprising that they don't know the type of charges customers face by using UPS & I find it very disappointing that they don't inform their customers that they are using UPS as their couriers.

Been caught once but won't get caught again.

I did send them an email complaining but didn't get an answer.

No surprise there I suppose 🙄

I normally save up 6 months of purchases in the trunk so DHL is probably a better deal for me :)

How does the Vat work with DHL as its a while since I used DHL & can't remember the arrangement the last time I used them ?

what delivery option have you been using, I only ever had this using anpost

    Chris

I used DHL for one order & it cost £17.

However the DHL price has now gone up to £23 🙄

I normally just use Royal Mail signed for & when I get charged the Vat again by AnPost Hattons refund it straight away.

    Bloody jobsworth.

There always has to be one doesn't there 🙄

Personally to date Hattons having DDP (Delivery Duties Paid) have been the most painless supplier in UK to deal with. They are registered for VAT here so no delays in post, no extra fees payable here. Hattons pay the vat. No fuss, no delays.  Some of the others if you ask who are not set up for DDP will deduct UK VAT so you only pay vat here but still have the delay in that process.

It works fine as long as the value is €150 or less.

Over that & you get charged the VAT again even though you have already paid it.

However Hattons are very quick to refund the Vat you paid them.

  7. Royal Mail are all over the place.

Royal Mail tracking says my package from Hattons is in Milton Keynes.

Well news flash to Royal Mail.

The package is on my kitchen table in South Kerry 🙄

Is there any benefit in using a commercial delivery service (something I’m normally dead set against) instead of the clearly confused and inconsistent An Pist / Royal Fail?

I used DHL from Hattons & it arrived in two days.

I also used Royal Mail from Hattons at the same time & it took two months 🙄

Good to hear….according to @Mike 84C his local post office would not take international mail until further notice due to the hack

I think they're accepting international packages again.

I got a signed for package from Hatton's yesterday.

    Only took 2 months 🙄

Terrible service,  I be waiting a good while should have taken the DHL option

I took the DHL option for another larger package & had it in two days which was great.

Up to now I have always found that Royal Mail were pretty good with the signed for stuff & most of the problems I had were with An Post.

    Hi all

Just looking for some advice on point motors. Im looking for slow action point motors in particular. I have acquired some solenoids for the fiddle yard and non scenic areas - but i would like to get as prototypical as possible for the layout itself.

I've been looking at Tortoises, cobalts etc etc...they all seem to have their pluses and minuse and there are endless debates etc etc....

I will need 12 point motors - points are Peco code 75 electrofrog and will end up DCC eventually - but with an option for running in DC.

Any advice, experiences on your own uses, costs etc etc would be greatly appreciated before I take the plunge....

    Thanks again

    Ed

I have both Tortoise & Dcc Concepts Ip digital on my layout. They both work fine without any problem. I have about 50 points motors.

Dcc Concepts & Tortoise point motors come in a few different varieties depending whether you are controlling them in DC or DCC.

If you're just going to control them with DC then the Dcc Concept COBALT IP ANALOG will possibly work out cheaper.

Here are a couple of links from Coastal Dcc showing the different kinds of motor & the price.

I have no connection with this company but have found them brilliant to deal with.

Just scroll down through the pages.

    Hi All,

This is regarding ordering from Hattons in UK and getting delivery to Republic of Ireland . I have done this already on an order worth less than £150, hattons charged customs at source on their website and Irish customs did not charge any customs charge.

Has anyone ordered a package whose value has exceeded £150 and did Irish customs charge a customs charge?

It varies. If you're charged vat by Irish customs just send an email to Hattons with a copy of the receipt & they will refund you the vat they charged straight away.

I've always found Hattons very reliable & have been using them for years.
