Like the look of this. More photos would be great

Thanks for the update Fran. This delay and the reason for it can only be seen as a positive in my opinion. As with all releases to date, the detail on each has been outstanding because IRM has accepted nothing less. No doubt these beauties will be well worth the wait.

Managed to make a little more progress on the silo over the past week or so. First job to be tackled was sorting a base to form the roof area. For this I decided to use some foam packing. Simple enough process involved...
The foam was cut to shape and the sides covered in pva glue. It was then pushed up through the tube, and once set I covered it in plasticard. What I was left with was a lightweight but solid base to build on.
Next it was on to the outer wall
And then the inner wall at the top

Love it Have a soft spot for 156. It was the first of many MM locos I've bought.

Brilliant Noel. There's a photo in Irish Railway Rambler of 019 carrying that livery sitting in the paint shop in Inchicore. Is there anything that doesn't turn up on Tara Junction

I still remember stumbling upon this thread a few years back when I had only just joined as a member, and was totally blown away by this layout. It will be great to see some photos of how it has progressed since then.

Is it just me or is anyone else getting a feeling of déjà vu here. And not for the first time.

I have to admit I'm seriously tempted to bang a deposit down on another couple of these beauties. God knows how I'm going to explain myself when she finally wants to see this "holiday home" that I've been investing my money in. Strangely enough, not long after IRM appeared on the scene.

Are the mk3 EGV's ordered by silver fox worth getting?
I'd agree with Noel. They're decent models which are also nicely finished, although a little on the pricey side.

Cheers warb,
Not the silo I'll be modelling, but a brilliant photo and interesting structure all the same

I've always fancied the idea of having a cement silo similar to the examples seen in both Tullamore and Waterford but could never seem to find a tube that was just right for the job. Then by chance I came across this...
So this morning armed with the essential mug of tea in hand plus some photos to work off, I headed out to the bench to give it a go.
I started by taking the measurements of each section of the silo, and then went about transferring these from the photos to the tube but in larger scale. Eventually, after a few alterations here and there I had something that I was happy with the look of. Markings now done I began cutting away the excess from the bottom of the tube to lower its overall height, and once this was removed it was on to cutting out the entrance/exit. Any rough edges were then give a light sanding just to tidy everything up.
Plenty of work still to be done but I'm happy with that start.

First Parts of 2019! Happy New Year to you all......
Brass parts cut out of .39mm brass sheet, needing a bit of an edge clean up, fold, and then solder.
All done, with a .5mm brass shaft to be soldered in when going onto the chassis.
Making the mould to cast the tanks in whitemetal was then done and the first casts tested today!
Placed on the chassis to check final location.
And screw coupling linkage- I have a packet of these MJT etched kits and this is a good excuse to try them, their a bit fiddly but look good when finished. Not sure how they will work with the bogie coupler! they get in the way.....
Here is a question;- Did Laminates use generators? if they did from what period, this coach livery is Black n Orange?? also- any photos?

This is modelling at it's best. Top class work Eoin

Wishing all Irish railway modellers a Happy new year from the Chief operating officer of Tara junction.
Here are a selection of photos from the Christmas and New year period which seen an intensive passenger timetable on the lead up to Christmas eve and some New years eve freight liner operations.
The passenger operation seen over 40 passenger carrying vehicles with a total seating capacity of 2,806 excluding EGV and GSVs,
The use of the 10 piece MK2 a/b set was a welcome addition alongside a MK3 3 piece push/pull hauled/pushed by 234.
On the freight side there were six trains operated carrying Guinness ,oil, containers, fertiliser ,cement both in bulk and pallet form and ore from Tara mines
Lovely shots Noel. Unfortunately the majority of these movements have been lost for good in the real world. But luckily they can still be seen on fantastic layouts like this. Happy New Year

Some wonderful modelling there Jason.
Thanks Tony, much appreciated.
4 hours ago, David Holman said:Agreed! Can't see from the photos ( and maybe it doesn't work as well in 4mm as 7mm), but a trick I learned from Gordon Gravett's is to file a 'flat' on each tyre where it touches the ground. Imitates the real thing and just helps the model sit better, giving it a bit of mass.
Handy tip David, I must try that.
