Going by the releases to date these will be well worth the wait. Yet again this just goes to show that IRM won't just throw anything out there unless it's of the highest quality. Really looking forward to adding these to my ballast wagons.

Nice job, I think the textured finish on the cement wagons is what really makes these models look good
Cheers Robert. Yes the powders seem to work well when trying to achieve that caked on lumpy appearance. All going to plan it will still be visible after airbrushing etc is eventually finished.

The logos have now been removed on all but 4 of the bubbles, so I've moved on to adding some cement spillage to the top of the tanks. This was made up from a mixture of Humbrol weathering powders and Matt Cote.
When the mix had dried I began removing it until I got a look I was happy with. It was then fixed in place with matt varnish.

Really interesting photos there Railer and great info to go with them. I know they're not everyone's cup of tea but I've always had a soft spot for the 201's. Reliability issues never helped over the years I know, but it's such a pity they never got close to the success of their predecessors.

No pints of the black stuff available Jason-only the finest of the most expensive top shelf malt whiskey delivered to your seat...….
Even better Noel

Lovely shots Noel. I'd gladly sit there with a pint of the black stuff looking out at that.

Another little project I've being itching to get started on is adding some much needed weathering to my IRM Cement Bubbles. I was a little reluctant at first about attempting this but a Bubble just doesn't look right if its not manky so they've made it to the bench to be dirtied up. I'm beginning by removing the logos. I know this might seem a little drastic, but it was rare they were seen on the real thing in their later years and by doing this it cuts out any chance of them showing through the weathering when its eventually applied. I've just finished the first two from 18, only 16 to go

Can't wait to get my hands on a pack of these stunners. And without straying from topic, can I just say the Ballast wagon looks fantastic when weathered.

Looking forward to this one. Hope it's as good as the Branchline Explorer back in April. The sing song session in the bar coach on the way home with a hellfire run from 086 as the light faded and the bar ran out of draft beer. Cracking day.
Have to agree Railer it was a fantastic day out, made all the better by the 3 locos on duty that day. Really looking forward to this one myself

Love it. Ballyercall is already up there with some of my favourite layouts on here.

On to the Ammonias. I decided to start with the tank itself and I'm glad I did. This turned out to be a little trickier than I expected, basically its a flat sheet of brass that needs to be rolled into a cylindrical shape to form the tank by using both resin ends as a guide. There were plenty of expletives used when doing this but I got there in the end
Plenty of work still to be done on the chassis

Hi Tony. 171 carries the IE orange livery from the mid 90s onwards. Just a heads up incase you're expecting the model to carry the livery shown on the photo on the box.

Well I'm thinking of buying it, sitting on it for 6 months, then re-selling €400. its obvious that this particular loco was designed by a superior craftsman whose work fetches a fine price.
I also invest my money in early 1990's Mikado biscuits.
Damn you Sails. I was hoping to put people off and buy it myself for the same reason

Chancing their arm or deluded. Hard to tell which. There's alot of both out there.

Just how i like them..filthy . I do miss the 141/181's.

Fantastic work all-round. Has that rough look to it, and that's meant as a compliment. The area looks used and slightly neglected which gives it that more of a realistic appearance. Enjoying watching this progress.

During the early to mid 1990s the HARP brewery in Dundalk operated a number of charter trains from all over the country, North and South using the Irish rail Mk3 Executive train,
On arrival at Dundalk the publicans and their families were treated to a tour of the brewery while being wined and dined on board to and from their locations,
Here we see a selection of photos of the train arriving at Platform one at Tara junction station much to the delight of the waiting publicans,
its a short formation consisting of dining car 7401,Executive coaches 7161+7162 and EGV 7601 all being hauled by an immaculate ex works IR liveried locomotive 080-its first run since repainting.

Cheers Noel. Plan is to have them heavily weathered when finished. They were generally manky when in service, so hoping to achieve that look when done.

Very nice Robert. Really like the one carrying the current logo, you'll always find one or two of those mixed in a rake so always nice to have.
