It's very easy to say why not produce 3 times the product to reduce the price, but this is no good to anybody if the product is sitting on a shelf with no one to buy it. IRM is a business at the end of the day and for a business to survive it needs to know it's market which the lads clearly do. I for one think the pricing is very reasonable for the top quality RTR models now available to us, considering it's such a small market to operate in.

Cheer Jason. I've only one set of three cement wagons left to weather. I'm debating if I should keep the last set pristine or weather them up. Being pristine they kind of stick out like a sore thumb at the end of the rake.
I can understand where your coming from Noel, they look that good the temptation is there to leave one or two as they are. Personally I'll be weathering mine as a complete rake, but that's just my preference. Everybody's different and their your models to run as you like.

Bubbles are looking good on the cement train Noel.

Another welcome addition to the ever growing list lads. Definitely think the option of being able to buy separately is the way to go, you can be sure there will be plenty of takers.

I've been following this with interest Noel. Some really handy info there due to your perseverance to get heights and spacing right. Nice one.

Still can't get over how good this is. I've seen some class layouts on here over the years but this is out there on its own. Can I suggest that this thread be moved to the Layout section so it's not lost in General Chat down the line?

Jason, did you use solder or superglue? Any in build pics? Noel
Cheers Noel, thanks for the kind words.I used the old reliable superglue. The joins were given a rub down with a very fine sandpaper before gluing. I've used it previously on other brass kits and have had no issues afterwards. Famous last words, they'll probably fall to bits now after saying that

Finally got around to finishing off the SSM plough vans during the week. You'll probably notice from the plough underneath that I had made a start on weathering these, but then decided to leave it at that. Reason being, I have my pack ordered from IRM and thought it made more sense to hold off and do a job on them as they will be running with my Ballast Wagons eventually. Anyway here's a couple of pics of the now completed vans.

Yipee - Craven Kadee height problem solved. I tried all manner of Kadee's this evening, long, short, medium, underset, overset, centerset shanks, etc, even No 5's but in the end the simplest solution proved the best. A home made adapter using no 17s.
Glue shortened Kadee no 17s to a DIY plasticard NEM shaft (12mm x 3mm). First remove the nibbles from the end of the tongs (i.e. shorten the no 17 by 2mm). Then plug this adapter into the existing Craven NEM pocket. Option to fit using friction only, or small screw through the NEM pocket to secure.
Fair play Noel, persistence paid off in the end.Nice result

Good evening all,
A few shots from the end of March and the beginning of April, showing the altered rail services over the Easter Bank holiday (due to the installation of a new underbridge at Sallins). As always, click on any of the photos to view them full size

Agree these look stunning. I don't like modern yellow stuff but will make an exception because these look absolutely exquisite and will go nicely with the ballasts. I hope to weather the yellow almost out of sight to a grimy brownish look.
I presume the NEM pockets will be at the same height as the Ballasts which should make kadee hookup easy. Will only need an adjusted height on the rear of the lead plough to hook up to a loco via kadee.
Request please lads re the interior lighting, 'warm white' please rather than 'cool white' (alias blue tint), and not too bright. Some of the MM loco cab lights seem as bright and blue as arc welding torches. Well done lads these look a stunning prospect.
Christ Noel, your worse than a politician for changing your mind. Are you sure you haven't got some autoballasters tucked away somewhere, that you take out for a sneaky run when nobody's looking

Really looking forward to this on Saturday myself. Can't wait to sit back and chill with a pint of the black stuff while being hauled around listening to 071s for 12 hours. Even managed to convince herself to come along for this one too. Her only question: Is there a bar coach on this? Me: Yes. Her: Grand so.
I'm in the same boat as you Railer. The other half wanted to come along to see what all this fuss about trains is.Went a little like this....
Her: I wont be bored will i ?
Me: Not if like 071 class locomotives and don't mind sitting in a Craven all day.
Her: What are they ?
Me : Bring a word search you'll be grand.
Like you I'm really looking forward to this, last one was the Marble Tribesman last year and it was a great day out.

What is the sequence for opening an MM Craven?
This is for the purpose of repainting internal seating, installing passengers, and installing coach lighting. If anybody has photos of the disassemble parts that would be great.
Thanks in advance.
Noel, there are 4 clips down both sides of the coach which are part of the seating. These sit into 4 gaps below the windows which lock the seats to the body. They are located on each end and the centre, you also have a clip on both ends of the chassis that lock into the seating and that holds everything in place. If you turn the coach upside down and part the body from the chassis slightly you'll see where they are located.I used a small flat head screwdriver to do this, just take your time so no damage comes to the model.

Lovely work Noel, definitely takes that out of the box look off them and blends everything nicely.Have some Mk2a's that could do with the same treatment when I get the chance.

Some lovely shots there. Particularly like 075 crossing the bridge still in silver and black freight livery. Also the close up shot of the CPW shows some great detail of the wagon, which is always helpful when modelling

Looks really good Noel. The strip works very well with the tinted windows in the mk2 model, really adds to the effect by diffusing the light slightly.

CIE Brake Parcel Van finished at last. Converted from a Bachmann LMS parcel van. Lightly weathered using a mix of weathering powders and airbrush. I've enjoyed doodling with this little project.
I'm reasonably happy the way the light weathering turned out.
Woodvale Junction station pilot about to shunt CIE brake parcel van onto rake of laminate coaches.
Bachmann donor before and after conversion
Lining looks spot on Noel very crisp, lovely finish too with the weathering

Needed to build a small station house for the layout and looked at a few options but settled on the rather nice building in Florencecourt. It has a pleasant mix of whitewashed plaster and stone cornices with clear add-on waiting room. Best of all it's small and allows me a little more room for the backdrop & street scene.
Still working on gutters, down pipes, and signage. Weathering will be done prior to fixing in place to reduce the finger marks. On a roll with building, so will probably continue and work on the backscene - you get a general gist from the printout behind the station house.
Need to tidy up some details but it's coming together rather nicely.
Cheers,
Ken

What a shot, this just oozes realism. Don't think it gets better than this.
