    They did initially for Dublin suburban work with the 121's, which restricted them to 70mph but later gained the Mk3 BT10's when they needed to go faster with 201 power

  2. First video is interesting - proof that they didnt always run a genny at each end, guessing this was filmed in the summer. First coach also has a broken window...

    Second video - look at the offset buffer on 209, rough shunt.......

    Studio Scale Models have a Mk3 DVT windows kit, is this intended to be used on a standard mk3 coach?

    That is a good starting point, the cab is inclined ever so slightly back so you will need to remove the end of the Mk3 and make a new end, and the windscreen is the same size as a standard Mk3 window

     

    BUT - I'd hang on for a year or two, as these have been announced by Murphy Models in RTR

    Interest in Model Railways in Ireland has never been better, and planning is now well under way for October, with massive interest from both Layouts and Trade alike, the old favourites along with few newcomers.

    We would like to extend a big thank you to everyone who stopped by our stand yesterday and said hello, it was great to see so many enthusiasts have a great day out.

    We would also like to say a massive thank you to the MRSI for all their help, and of course IE for putting on an absolutely fantastic event. Well run, great exhibits and brilliant staff on hand to help out. 

    One final observation from our stand yesterday was the sheer volume of children who were absolutely train mad, full of enthusiasm, knowledge and passion. It has been said in the past that there is no next generation coming after ours who are interested in railways. Yesterday dismissed that notion, they are absolutely out there, and events like yesterday, and our exhibitions run by the clubs will further involve them. It was brilliant to see. 

    No new announcements from us, but as we confirmed yesterday we have s string of them lining up now Covid is being left behind, so get the overtime in, savings box full, cos there are some absolute belters coming your way from IRM over the next 12/18 months, and of course, beyond!

    Can only agree here Fran, great event and it was great having our jolly good chums from IRM beside us too, only a good omen for October given we ran out of flyers by lunchtime... The interest in Model Railways in Ireland has never been better which is very refreshing

    Alas will probably be another few years before we get to exhibit inside Irish Rails Nerve Centre, but who knows...

    Was a great event and worth all of the emails and phone calls, a massive credit to Peter Smyth, Rory West and everyone else who made it happen. Was the most comprehensive public works tour ever, very few places that you couldn't venture through compared to the 150th anniversary open weekend in 1996

    Not forgetting this model we had on display - the CME department were most intrigued.....

    You can see where the original split was, but as said by @Warbonnetabove it really is a testament to what IE can still do at Inchicore when needed

    One guy lost his thesis as he had no backup copies made, and didn't even have a copy of it on his network drive space, as he was the paranoid sort. No pity felt for him!

    Likewise in the same career for a similar amount of time - they think we can press a button and it magically re-appears. Never been easier to save data these days

    Looks well - which version of the kit did you buy, as I always found his pricing to be both high and bit strange that the glazing is separate when its needed as part of the kit

    FY wanted it to look more like a BR Class 52 Western than the '201' design which predated the IE one by 11 years, so FY got their wish. The 201 has the bodyside ribs which were designed to match wagons that FY had at the time

    The main challenge was shrinking the SD40-2 design into the British loading gauge and keeping all of the complex electronics that allow their incredible haulage capacity

    Know the feeling, I've a small mountain of Cambrian kits along with other stuff collected over the years, something very calming about assembling Cambrian Salmon/Sturgeon/Tench kits though, especially when you look at flangeways attempts

    We do have a crab but it is now never moved after things went wrong at a show when it was moved. Its developed an aura like a lucky rabbits foot. 😀
