    Hi everyone,

I would rather not go into too much detail but Junctionmad has been a little bit under the weather recently, hence lack of updates.

    Cheers!

    Fran

Thanks Fran send him our best regards and hope he is feeling better soon

  2. All I can say is 'Nurse the screens' what a fantasic sight and just so good, I would suggest one thing folks, you need to have two locos on site, so if one fails you have a second as a back up, you don't want to be open to the public for the one and only loco to have failed.

But if you don't mind where the second one comes from I did hear that the Sri Lankan Railways had a couple of 5ft 6in gauge deisel locos for sale. 😀

  3. There are a number of track systems out there, but sadly they are all mainly HOm if you want Irish 3ft the closes is Peco HOm but then you need to take knif to the sleepers and spred them out a bit to 10 mm centres which is about 2ft 6in centre to centre which I think is about average on the prototype some where about 3ft centre to centre.

Peco or Dundas Models still do 00n3 wagon kits and Branchlines still do their isle of man and Dingle loco kits, the biggest problem is find a RTR chassie for any of the steam locos, there are power bogies that can be used under freelanced Deisels and Bemo still do it HOm rolling stock.

The biggest supplier by far for etched parts is Worsley Works.

    Hope this helps

We had a term much used in NI when I was young - "He's a Chancer"!

We'll see if they're sold at that price........

There are guys who collect all Dapol commissions and I think that this outfit is hoping to kid some of them into filling gaps in their collections! They ignore that while they were Dapol wagons, what was on them WASN'T!

No, I wasn't rooting around in my garage - I was commissioning more wagons from Dapol ........

Oh goodie, a price war Weeeee! Seriously for a moment, I will wait and see what Leslie comes up with

Even a yurt isn't that expensive, that said the seller must be living up my road as I am getting bombarded with requests to sell my house from so called estate agents 🤬, I don't mind since I have heavy metal music from one side and bhangra music on the other 😠

You'd have to mix and match. The 7' x 7'4" wheelbase is slightly unusual but I think Alan Gibson Workshop produces a set of etched coupling rods for that wheelbase. Even if not, AGW also produces a universal set of coupling rods that you can trim and adjust to obtain 7' x 7'4". A similar, if slightly more developed, universal etch is available from Lanarkshire Model Supplies.

For the connecting rods and valve gear, AGW has about ten different types of Walschaerts valve gear etch for various British classes including the S15. The important one is that the connecting rods should come out at a scale 11' (44mm) between little end and big end centres. It's a matter of trying to work out which one needs least modification.

You may end up using more than one etch to cobble the various other rods together.

What can possible go wrong then 😥

Apart from the outside Walschaert's valve gear a 500 Class would be a relatively simple scratchbuilding project. Plenty of room for a large can motor and gearbox simple geometric shapes no pesky curving running boards and crankpin splashers that make 19th Century locos so challenging to build.

Building a rake of matching GSWR/GSR 1920s side corridor coaches used on trains like the "American Mails" and "Tourist Train" in GSR days would be more challenging, though SSM produce very nice kits of the GSR Bredin coaches used on the "Steel Train" during the 1930, strictly speaking the forthcoming Park Royals are too modern 500 and 501 were withdrawn in 1955, 502 was withdrawn in 1957.

Hi John do you of anyone producing an etched Walschaert's valve gear suitable for the 500 class?

When I first saw Ballyconnell Road it was during an intended quick visit to a MR Ex at Guildford.

I spent my entire two hour parking slot just walking round and round it, more amazed each time.

I had to go and repark the car to see the rest of the exhibition!

Mind you Mick and Co are in another League, modelling-wise!

I have known Mick man and boy which is more years than I care to remember, but if you think this is good, let me tell you he has also built four Backwoods Miniatures Lynton and Barnstaple 2-6-2T's and the Baldwin 2-4-2T in 009 and they run just as sweet.

The last time I spoke to him he had just acquired a set of Worsley Works Donegal class 5 etches in 3mm scale and some code 40 rail as an experiment, but I have to admit that was in 2019 just before Covid took hold.

A propper 1:76 one was my my plan. It has been done before….however it would End up being 2.5 meters long!!!

Just over 8ft long. Oh well another thing to put on the Lottery win wall of must haves.

Depends on the size. That one above is In N gauge. Somewhere in the region of 100 quid I think

Really! It looks bigger than that. I guess that if I wanted one it would need to be done in 4mm scale. But just out of interest do you have an approximate size length wise in 4mm?

    Thanks

Dire I ask about the Chetwynd viaduct kit and which parts of the body do I need to get removed to pay for it 😀.

    Hear that @BosKonay that’s 2 bandon tanks sold!!!😁

no I don’t think we can expect a RTR bandon, unless 00 works do one…in the next 20-30 years. Luckily should have the time to do the crime if everything goes well😁

As for the model village.well now you can have a Hornby Ruston 88ds run around a ring with 2 Park Royal’s….a model village train!

Bandon tanks er? well SSM do an etched kit, or I wonder if anyone makes a 3D print of them the problem with that is then fining a chassis for the body, they are no doubt a fine looking loco, but I don't think I could do with just one, plus I do wonder how I can justify them running into Downpatrick except for some sort of religious festival of which I am not aware of😃.

  13. Well the first bit of the rolling stock turned up to day and it is a Bachmann BR Mk1 BG coach in green, I know its not quite right, but at least it will keep the Park Royals company for now. Just got to figure out a way to install 21mm gauge wheelsets.

I think there has been an article on how to convert one of these to it Irish sister.

     October 😆

But which one? Seriously I hope it is something which there where many of in the class and with a few tweaks you could produce a few variations on a theme hopefully it might be any one of the following :-

Great Southern & Western Railway Class 101 or GSR Class J15

Or others could be the U2 or the W or WT NCC locos the W and WT i think have many common parts

From the GNR(I) you could have SG, SG2 or the SG3 again some parts are interchangeable

From South of the boarder you could have the classes 372 and 393 both 2-6-0 ex-Woolwich SR designs now this could fit in with a new accurascale model if they ever decide to make one, the only thing is I think the running boards may need to be wider for the Irish versions of these locos.

Then of course everyone will want a class 800 wont they?

The biggest problem I see for anyone making a Irish steam loco RTR model is the numbers in each prototype class.
