Darius43 Posted October 19 Author Posted October 19 MTK Class 27 started this afternoon. Plan is to use a Lima Class 33 chassis with new wheels and motor from Peter’s Spares. First task is to trim the bottom chassis edge from the side parts and glue them together. I held them against a straight edge whilst doing this to keep them true. The fit of parts wasn’t bad considering it is an MTK kit. I used tape to hold the cab ends in place whilst the glue set. The Peter’s Spares replacement wheelsets are light years better than the Lima pizza cutters. Gone are the traction tyres - I reckon there’s plenty of weight in this kit. Some trimming and fettling of both will be needed for the body to fit the chassis. Cheers Darius 8 Quote
Galteemore Posted October 19 Posted October 19 Nice to see some old school modelling being done! As you say, amazing contrast in wheel profiles. Don’t think you’ll need to add weight to the loco…. 3 2 1 Quote
Darius43 Posted October 19 Author Posted October 19 Body fitted to chassis. Had to thin down the inside of the body using a Dremel for it to fit. Cheers Darius 3 Quote

gibbo675 Posted October 20 Posted October 20 Hi Darius, You won't need any extra weight to get it to pull trains. How does the new motor fit ? You noted it at the start of the build however you haven't shewn any details of its fitment. Here is my 27, it's a Lima one so I cheated slightly. This is a short lived livery variant of the late 1960's early 1970's in that the yellow does not cover the cab side windows. I painted the inner edges of the cab front windows black to give the appearance of rubber mounts. as with too many of my models I need to finish it off by putting proper buffers on it and fitting hooks and hoses. I did fit Hornby class 25 cab interiors to it which has added a little extra tot he Lima model. Gibbo. 1 Quote
Darius43 Posted October 20 Author Posted October 20 I haven’t yet fitted the replacement motor. How this is done is shown* in this video. * I don't favour “shewn” as we can’t have archaic and eat it… Cheers Darius 1 2 Quote

Darius43 Posted October 20 Author Posted October 20 (edited) I have no idea what you are talking about or why you PM’d that strange video to me - please don’t send any more to me. Let’s stick to modelling - on the subject of which I’m off to work on the Class 27… Cheers Darius Edited October 20 by Darius43 Quote

Darius43 Posted October 24 Author Posted October 24 Something different - BR wagon built for carrying DEMU engines between depots on the Southern Region. 3D printed kit by 12A models. The kit goes together nicely. I printed my own decals based on images on the 12A models website. Cheers Darius 6 Quote

Darius43 Posted October 26 Author Posted October 26 Hot on the heels of the Class 27 comes this very similar kit. Cheers Darius 2 Quote
gibbo675 Posted October 26 Posted October 26 Hi Darius, You have got me thinking and so far I have theories about this latest batch of kit builds It is a fun way to use up spare chassis. It is a difficult way to add extra weight to Lima BRCW Sulzers. You have a secret plan for all of the Lima body shells. The original models were left on the window sill and warped in the sun You are trying to emulate BRCW by redesigning the wheel and causing yourself financial ruin. Or could it be something else ? Do be aware that the undergibbons of the class 27 is a slight different to that of the class 33, the Lima moulding being correct for the class 33. Should you convert one of them could perhaps swap them about A Vic Berry-esqu juxtaposition which shows* that the No. 1 end is opposite with regard the fuel tank. between the classes. * no chaic for you today ! Gibbo. Quote
Darius43 Posted October 26 Author Posted October 26 I was aware of the fuel tank differences between the 33 and 27 but chose not to hack about the chassis too much at this stage. I’ve been collecting MTK for some time now and am building them for fun and to show that they can be built to a reasonable standard compared to the rtr Heljan examples - of which I have quite a few. At the end of the day I really enjoy building kits. Cheers Darius 3 Quote
gibbo675 Posted October 26 Posted October 26 Top answer Mr D ! Let me know if you need a drawing. I can see the fun it my self although with 23 APT vehicles on the go all at once I am questioning the differential between fun and lunacy. I should have 19 of them in undercoat by this afternoon and then I can sort out all the bits that a flat grey reveals for yet more sanding before first coat gloss. Gibbo. Quote

Darius43 Posted October 28 Author Posted October 28 I replaced the rather crude mesh grilles provided with the kit with etched brass grilles from A1 Models. Did the same for the Class 27. Cheers Darius 8 Quote
