Track layouts for Cork and Mallow railway stations - where to get them?

Hi all,

Having recently moved house I now have a space for a permanent layout.

I have always liked the idea of basing a model on the condensed track layouts of either Cork or Mallow stations.

Is it possible to get track layouts of these stations at various times in the last 50 years up to the current time? ( it will be modern image)

I recall that years ago all the OSI maps were free to view online but that doesnt seem to be the case anymore and I cant turn up anything else online.

I like the idea of a double-track mainline station with a "goods" avoiding line or its equivalent, and the opportunity of secondary lines/commuter traffic also leaving from them - Cork is winning at the moment but the thought of Mallow with an intermodal yard as well sneaks back in to my thoughts regularly.

any pointers or advice on to hunt down the track plans for either would be much appreciated.  If It is the paid for OSI maps thats fine too - i just have no experience of what thats like.

Cheerio,

I think you still can get the maps free on osi mapviewer?

Since the track plan will be condensed, strict accuracy over track plan will be neither necessary nor possible. If you're ever in malahide, call into the Model Railway Museum and look at the condensed model of Mallow on the layout in there.

1983 view of mainline heading north for dublin and branch line heading east for waterford

for current day if you go onto google maps and use satellite view you can see the track layout image is from roughly 2010 to 2016 based off the roundabout layout next to it. track layout is basically unchanged since then

hope that helps

I’m intrigued by the dropped platform by the crossing, not seen very often.

The dropped platform at the barrow crossing is probably a hangover from GSWR days.

The platform ends at the Cork end of the station are 'curiouser still' and just look at those signals!

At the time Mallow still had the low GSWR platforms and staff used small wooden steps, possibly the last of the major Cork line stations to retain these platforms which may have been raised when the Cork Line CTC was extended to Mallow during the late 80s
