David Holman Posted October 19, 2025 Posted October 19, 2025 Was at the Uckfield Show this morning and delighted to find, amongst the usual range of superb layouts, a small portion of East Lynn. Trevor is sadly no longer with us, but it was lovely to see even this small section. S Gauge [1:64] and pretty much completely scratch built, East Lynn was a stunning portrayal of the Great Eastern & Midland Great Northern in pre-grouping days. The small quayside section was particularly special for me, because I had the privilege of operating it, twice, around 20 years ago. It features chain shunting, where you need to use suitably sited capstans to enable the loco to position wagons in all sorts of strange corners as seen below. The wagon turntable works too, while some of the stock here is now 50+ years old. The loco [out of shot], is pulling the wagon on to the turntable, with the chain, which goes on the coupling hooks. Feel free to add your your own memories of Ken's work. 10 1
Rob R Posted October 19, 2025 Posted October 19, 2025 The big bit of East Lynn and Nunstanton will be out and about next year along with Trowland, Trevors' little M&GN terminus, as it is the SSMRS 80th Birthday and we are "getting out there" to spread the word. Of course, in a scale where scratchbuilding and improvisation is the norm the "delights" of Irish 5ft 3in are easily overcome. M&GN 3A (ex Cornish Minerals Railway 060t) simmers on the quay at Trowland. Everything (except the clouds) scratchbuilt by Trevor Nunn. 3 4
Northroader Posted October 20, 2025 Posted October 20, 2025 To me East Lynn was just too big, though perfect modelling. Trowland to me is everything a model of a branch terminus should be. http://www.s-scale.org.uk/gallery27.htm 3
Rob R Posted 22 hours ago Posted 22 hours ago For those of you in the UK and going to RAILEX Aylesbury on the 23rd/24th May you will have the unique opportunity to see both of the late Trevor Nunn's layouts together. As part of the S Scale Model Railway Society's 80th Birthday celebrations, the Risbourough and District MRC have very generously allowed us to have 4 (yes 4!) S scale layouts with a display and demo stand. The layouts are East Lynn and Nunstanton, Trowland, Blakey Rigg, Arcadia. If you are visiting Railex please feel free to introduce yourself - if I am feeling really bored on Trowland you might get a controller thrust into your hand Regards Rob Rayner Hon Sec 2
Galteemore Posted 22 hours ago Posted 22 hours ago (edited) Now that’s tempting. RDMRC was my club for a few years, and Railex my local show. Trevor’s layouts are stellar. Blakey Rigg is a fabulous evocation of the NER. As for Arcadia, it’s one of those layouts I’d be tempted to walk off with when the owner’s back was turned . Just the right size for me with lots to do on it http://www.s-scale.org.uk/gallery29.htm Edited 22 hours ago by Galteemore 3
