David Holman Posted Sunday at 19:25 Posted Sunday at 19:25 Was at the Uckfield Show this morning and delighted to find, amongst the usual range of superb layouts, a small portion of East Lynn. Trevor is sadly no longer with us, but it was lovely to see even this small section. S Gauge [1:64] and pretty much completely scratch built, East Lynn was a stunning portrayal of the Great Eastern & Midland Great Northern in pre-grouping days. The small quayside section was particularly special for me, because I had the privilege of operating it, twice, around 20 years ago. It features chain shunting, where you need to use suitably sited capstans to enable the loco to position wagons in all sorts of strange corners as seen below. The wagon turntable works too, while some of the stock here is now 50+ years old. The loco [out of shot], is pulling the wagon on to the turntable, with the chain, which goes on the coupling hooks. Feel free to add your your own memories of Ken's work. 8
Rob R Posted Sunday at 20:18 Posted Sunday at 20:18 The big bit of East Lynn and Nunstanton will be out and about next year along with Trowland, Trevors' little M&GN terminus, as it is the SSMRS 80th Birthday and we are "getting out there" to spread the word. Of course, in a scale where scratchbuilding and improvisation is the norm the "delights" of Irish 5ft 3in are easily overcome. M&GN 3A (ex Cornish Minerals Railway 060t) simmers on the quay at Trowland. Everything (except the clouds) scratchbuilt by Trevor Nunn. 2 2
Northroader Posted Monday at 11:38 Posted Monday at 11:38 To me East Lynn was just too big, though perfect modelling. Trowland to me is everything a model of a branch terminus should be. http://www.s-scale.org.uk/gallery27.htm 2
