frankderpfeifer Posted January 22, 2014 Posted January 22, 2014 Hi, who knows about garda vehicles around 1958? What colour did they have (dark blue, white or black)? What prototypes were used? What writings and crests did they wear? Are pics availible? Frank Quote

Seems to be rather understated, no logos or no rooftop GARDA sign. Prob. either navy or black. Edited January 22, 2014 by minister_for_hardship Quote

0 jhb171achill Posted January 22, 2014 Posted January 22, 2014 I'd be nearly sure they were black - but not 100% sure! Quote

0 minister_for_hardship Posted January 22, 2014 Posted January 22, 2014 Lledo did a Garda set a few years ago, can't vouch for their authenticity, sometimes they can use their imagination. Not so sure about the breakdown truck, not many US marques to be found in ireland. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Lledo-An-Garda-Siochana-Collection-5-Piece-Set-Police-Model-T-Ford-Van-/321138076605?nma=true&si=qsEwQjqhjQAnJGI%252FvqAr%252BlwL%252BHw%253D&orig_cvip=true&rt=nc&_trksid=p2047675.l2557 LP006 1016 Model T Ford Van LP027 1003 Mack Breakdown Truck LP071 1003 Morris LD150 Van LP127 1005 Morris Minor Van PM100 1002 Ford Transit Mini Bus Quote
0 jhb171achill Posted January 22, 2014 Posted January 22, 2014 It was very kind of them, Minister. They even gave me somewhere to stay for the night, and even offered me free B & B for six full years... and so hospitable were they, it took my solicitor friend to persuade them to let go! (On condition I stay away from railway modellers for ever.....) Anyway, I am glad I got home as it was my ninth birthday the next day. Quote

0 minister_for_hardship Posted January 23, 2014 Posted January 23, 2014 A 'Baby Ford' Garda car from an earlier era, might have scraped into the 50s in an outlying area though...apart from the enormous PA system (prob fitted for a special event?) no obvious signs of ownership. https://www.flickr.com/groups/policehistory/pool/with/5625492939/lightbox/ Quote
