Mayner Posted July 25, 2014 Posted July 25, 2014 A narrow gauge railway was used for hauling out targets to the Curragh Camp rifle range. Does anyone know if it still exists?
heirflick Posted July 26, 2014 Author Posted July 26, 2014 john, the railway still exists, but unfortunately due to bull s**t and red tape, the range is no longer in use. heres a few pics.....
WRENNEIRE Posted July 26, 2014 Posted July 26, 2014 I see an Engineers logo on the side of the loco, sweet!
josefstadt Posted August 6, 2014 Posted August 6, 2014 The loco was built by Motor Rail at the Simplex Works in Bedford, England. Patent applied for in 1926. The Works No. was 258537, but unfortunately I don't have a construction date.
josefstadt Posted August 6, 2014 Posted August 6, 2014 At a guess yes, but don't quote me on that HF! I got the data off the side of the loco during a private visit to see the railway many years ago. I couldn't find any reference as to when the loco was purchased by the army and whether they got it new or second-hand. I'll see if I can dig out any further info once the IRRS re-opens in Sept.
