minister_for_hardship Posted September 2, 2014 Posted September 2, 2014 Probably just as well, ugh. The Great Train Robbery would have to be filmed elsewhere...nice model though. http://archiseek.com/2014/1970s-proposal-heuston-station-dublin/ Quote

Junctionmad Posted September 3, 2014 Posted September 3, 2014 Yep, we lost the plot in the 60s , everything old had no value , remember those diy articles that suggested covering up 6 panelled solid timber doors and , banisters with sheets of Formica , to " give a modern smooth clean appearance " god in heaven we were stupid ...... minister_for_hardship Posted September 3, 2014 Author Posted September 3, 2014 (edited) Interesting going through the different styles on that site, the Victorian era had a few OTT poorly proportioned uglies but 60's/70's designs had little in the line of redeeming features, imho. The 'Unbuilt Ireland' section is worth a look. One of the more bizarre proposals...http://archiseek.com/2012/1942-new-capital-city-for-ireland-at-tara/ Edited September 3, 2014 by minister_for_hardship Quote
Weshty Posted September 3, 2014 Posted September 3, 2014 What really gets me is the lack of thought in covering Heuston with a massive car park no natural light on the plaftorms no effective loco ventilation one curved access road to the carpark, can you imagine the congestion no rain cover in moving to the front of the building completely car-centric access and focus of the design. It is fair to say that the late 60's and 70's were a dreadful period for architecture, cheap and nasty with a near total rejection of the installed base. Truly God-awful. Quote
heirflick Posted September 3, 2014 Posted September 3, 2014 the worst ive seen back then was covering up marble and beautiful parquet flooring with glued down carpet sections that could never be kept clean..utter bulsh*t:(( Quote
