0 Mike 84C Posted July 9, 2015 Posted July 9, 2015 Hi btb, Eileen emporium do range of plastic compatible grease and oils, I would rather use the word lubricants.I used them on a Bachmann 2-6-0 cleaned the gearbox and replaced the grease and used a needle to put a couple of drops of oil on the axle then a drop on the needle point to lube the valve gear and rods.I think it now runs better, quite. My only interest in E Quote
0 Dunluce Castle Posted July 9, 2015 Posted July 9, 2015 I've always been recommend peco gear lube, obviously for gears, but I've never tried it myself, although I do use some very fine oil that I bought from Squires for moving parts such as valve gear and coupling rods. Quote
0 irishthump Posted July 10, 2015 Posted July 10, 2015 Sewing machine oil is a good substitute for the name brand lubricants. Use light oil on the motor bearings (important but often overlooked, just needs the tiniest amount) and on the worm gear bearings. Some light grease is best on the worm gear itself and the drive wheel gearing. Quote
0 burnthebox Posted July 10, 2015 Author Posted July 10, 2015 Hi & thanks guys, I have to say I may need advice on where those gears, bearings, valve gears & rods are, in the meantime I'll be playing around with a couple of loco's for practice purposes, thanks again, Quote
