Mike 84C Posted October 13, 2016 Posted October 13, 2016 Cambrian models have just announced a new C115 LSWR 4whl van kit. looks like a candidate for a large NCC van.? At £7.70 not so expensive. I shall try and get one at Peterborough this Sunday. Quote
Dunluce Castle Posted October 13, 2016 Posted October 13, 2016 Can't really tell from the pics on their website but by all means, post pictures of it once you get one. Quote
Glenderg Posted October 14, 2016 Posted October 14, 2016 I can't figure out what it is from the website - are they talking about an NCC Brown Van? Quote
Kirley Posted October 14, 2016 Posted October 14, 2016 I can't figure out what it is from the website - are they talking about an NCC Brown Van? Brown Vans were 24' long with a wheelbase of either 14' or 15'. The Cambrian kit looks shorter. Quote
Glenderg Posted October 14, 2016 Posted October 14, 2016 NCC Brown Van - Wheelbase is 14'11" - Length over body is 24'3" - Buffers are 17½" long (but vary) (Source: I measured it ) Quote
Kirley Posted October 14, 2016 Posted October 14, 2016 Don't forget there were those built in Dunmurry and then Harland & Wolff. Different wheelbases. Quote
Glenderg Posted October 14, 2016 Posted October 14, 2016 Ah! Every day's a school day. Was there any pattern for which was which? Quote
Kirley Posted October 14, 2016 Posted October 14, 2016 Was there any pattern for which was which? Both versions according to the drawings had an outside length of 24' 1" and were 27' 8" over the buffers. The main difference was the 14'wb was a 10T van whereas the 15' was 11T. No's 1825 - 1835 had their underframes built by H & W and the bodies by the UTA at Dunmurry. No's 1886 - 1899 were all built at H & W. No's 1896 - 1899 were fitted with Westinghouse Air Brakes to run with the MED & MPD's. Perhaps to much information...? Quote

Does a kit/RTR not exist yet of this iconic vehicle? Quote
Kirley Posted October 14, 2016 Posted October 14, 2016 Does a kit/RTR not exist yet of this iconic vehicle? Not as yet, scratch build is the only way at the moment. Quote
Glenderg Posted October 14, 2016 Posted October 14, 2016 Impressive rake Kieran, very impressive. That can't have been an easy gig. I'd have thought there would be suitable demand for a kit, but hey ho. Quote
Mayner Posted October 14, 2016 Posted October 14, 2016 Derby either built or re-gauged a number of Midland Railway vans to replace NCC stock destroyed as a result of air raids on Belfast. Slaters did a kit of a standard Midland van, though the vans sent to the NCC had slightly different diagonal bracing https://slatersplastikard.com/linePage.php?code=G3W024 Quote
