WaYSidE Posted March 7, 2019 Posted March 7, 2019 Brexit fears have led to a heritage railway carriage being brought across the border sooner than expected. With continued uncertainty over what will happen after March 29, the Downpatrick & County Down Railway rushed to get the carriage across the frontier this week. Railway chairman Robert Gardiner said: "We worked flat out to ensure we brought the vehicle to Downpatrick before the Brexit deadline. We didn't particularly like the idea of smuggling a railway carriage across the border." https://www.belfasttelegraph.co.uk/news/northern-ireland/brexit-fears-mean-historic-train-car-moved-over-irish-border-early-37887175.html 2 Quote
jhb171achill Posted March 8, 2019 Posted March 8, 2019 Actually, that's a point. Post-Brexit, the solitary 5'3" gauge preserved railway on this island will potentially find it prohibitively awkward and / or expensive to rescue something from the "other side of the border" - i.e. where most of the railways and railway vehicles on this island are situated! The RPSI might run into extra expense or paperwork if they want to move stock, for example a Dublin-domiciled vehicle to Whitehead for major repair, or vice versa.... Thanks, Arlene & Boris. Quote

The tiny gangway just goes to show how short people may effect border rail traffic. Little people will find it easier to be smuggled (non political humour). On a serious note LPPs May become more expensive to import from UK located model shops, but they could perhaps be easily smuggled seated within model coach resprays. Tara junction may see an increase in model RPSI services in order to ensure Noel retains enough LPP actors for his Tara junction railway life studio productions. 1 Quote
