MM stuff does not go back to the UK man, he distributes it from here, he usually drops my bits off on his way back from the Airport!

My stuff will its coming from Rails Kid. Hence wondering if to cancel or not.

  3. Exactly why I will be having a purge over the next month to try and get rid of 100's plastic kits before the deadline. Most of the buyers are UK too so prudent to do so.

There's no duty on model railway items so in theory a pre-order with a UK retailer might face delays but the goods should be delivered with no increase in cost, vat rate difference aside.

nah, you gonna pay an Post or a courier a nominal fee for clearance/ processing collecting VAT, They Aint gonna do it  nothing so if you have saved a tennor say with Rails etc you are gonna lose that with the customs fee. Now if the box shifters sent the locos out as one job lot then one processing fee will be applied for the hole shipment so not too bad but the box shifters are not to bothered with checking to see if you have multiple orders is as this was the case with my 121 order with rails.

They sent the 2 grey locos in two separate parcels and I got hit with two carriage costs.  so if they do that for a order with 6 121s in then say 60 notes processing plus delivery cost for each one. where Seamus Graham when you need him!!

Now this is a right balls too, Any small orders are gonna get hit too.

From 1 January 2021 the existing VAT exemption for goods up to 22 € will disappear. In order to allow VAT to be levied, all imports into the EU will have to be declared at the border using an electronic customs declaration.

Flipping disaster now for ordering any small bits n bobs that you might need to get from the UK.

In the end I ended up ordering my IE ones from Marks.

Ah yes of course, delays can be expected I'm sure. At best a FTA will be agreed but the UK will almost certainly leave the customs union and EU vat area from the 1st unfortunately 😞

Will IRM continue to ship from the UK to EU customers, at least initially?

From what I have heard all import will be treated as EFTA jobs (ala Switzerland / Norwayu) so these will have processing fee on them for clearance.

  6. Hi Dave,

I know it is not my business to ask but do you know if the Final batch is air or sea freight.

I have orders placed across the pond so wondering if I should cancel those as no doubt hassle with Brexit in Jan.

Good possibility in these landing in  2020 with the seasonal rate uplift and lack of space, plus there are major pile ups of cargo now at the airports in China.

Just Realised I did not even have the IE ones ordered!! Man Alive. close one.

An 071 is next to complete and send away or it wont be safe to walk about the midlands......Here a few shots of the latest push.

  8. I did not see the Rotating Axles covers until a few days running. Cant really see them but certainly a nice touch.

What do you think about the Model Rail, Review. Honest enough I imagine, High markings in the review.

  9. Looks like Lima job that needs to be  resprayed and re done with same decals. Wound not relish that TBH. The decals on this look to be never sealed in and have rubbed off.

I hang onto see an intercity ones comes up for sale or maybe someone here has one to offload as a resprays could nearly be half the cost of a MM version.

I never knew there was a model shop in Kildare town, and I'm from Kildare!

Does anyone know if the Model Shop in Capel Street in Dublin is still open? I know they mostly focused on RC but they did stock railway items too.

    Link to his website.

  13. I never use Cab lighting tbh. most of it is way too bright.

Yes tis a Shame the Head and running light are not controllable on the MM chip. No doubt the boffins will have a alternative with such an option. Sound is mighty on it though.Better then the 071 by miles.

  14. Don't RB Models too in Clonmel, Only been there once mind you, picked some stuff up too.

https://rbmodels.ie/     €185 for the 121's they were flogging them for!

You would possibly deal with an Irish Distributor too.

I am mostly off the net these days, I went for Plasticard 2mm 12 inch sheets, Cant get them in Ireland, To make it worthwhile I usually add to the order and this is usually from UK. Gonna be a pain in the A$$ when they leave getting stuff and added cost such as the items I get for the RC Boat which aint cheap

Interesting debate on Gauge O Guild about this. Some traders now stopped shows completely (even pre COVID). It’s a tricky one, as online isn’t great for everything. Some small items like buffer castings etc you really need to see in the flesh to compare. And I always enjoy seeing Roger at Alphagraphix !

Man alive that a fine stall! they really need to be online.

Like Airshows most of the model sellers and Aircraft Specials sellers don't go anymore as they are priced out with the recent hikes for pitches. Why bother with all the hassle.

Don't forget Mark puts in a massive amount of graft for his business and attends quite a number of shows, not just railway ones to so expect to have little time off if running solo and to keep the wolf from the door.

Re puffers in Ireland, there was one rusting against Letterfrack pier for many a year. Found the following re that vessel on another site

    Mark

Remembering The old Clyde Puffer Pibroch at Letterfrack, Connemara...

Puffers were once a familiar sight on the West Coast of Scotland and the Clyde. But times have changed and nearly all have disappeared.
The Pibroch was one of a few puffers which was still afloat, well at least for some years. There was hope in the early 2000’s that she would sail again one day, but over the years nothing happened to restore her and so she rotted away. There were interests in saving the puffer but it is not known why nothing came out of it so in the end Pibroch was scrapped in Letterfrack in 2010.
The 87ft Pibroch, a 157-ton coaster built for the whisky trade by Scott & Son of Bowling was still dodging in and out of Ireland's Atlantic islands including Inishbofin and the Aran Islands with cargoes of sand, tar, and farmer's flittings, when she was the oldest surviving working puffer, before resting rustily against the pier in tidal harbour in Connemara awaiting her final fate.
The Pibroch was commissioned from Scott & Son of Bowling on the Clyde in 1957 by Scottish Malt Distillers and was used by White Horse to carry coal and barley to distilleries in Islay and return with casks of the finished product. She carried a White Horse emblem at her masthead.
She was the first puffer to have steel hatches, which went some way towards stopping the ''evaporation'' of the return whisky cargoes, an occurrence which was not unknown in the trade.
In 1974, the Glenlight Shipping Company bought her for cargo use in the Clyde and the west coast. In 1982, she was chartered to the US Navy's Holy Loch base, where she was tied alongside the nuclear submarines' support ship and used as a floating dustbin, with American detritus dumped into her hold. What was abandoned by the Americans was picked over at the docks in Greenock when the Pibroch unloaded.
In 1987 she was sold to John Hawco of Beauly, who tried to employ her in the coastal trade, but after a year was sold to Eamonn Mylotte, who worked her during her final years.
Strictly speaking, the term puffer applied only to steam lighters which had non-condensing steam engines, which made them puff like a locomotive leaving a station.
The term continued to be applied after condensers were introduced and has passed on even to diesel-engined coasters like the Pibroch.

Pics here, I did take some shots of her back in the 90's but no idea where they went to.
