A few things from my Hunslet file.... 1) spec page from Hunslet. 2), a fanciful colour advert featuring 102 on a Bell Liner train under the little used gantry at Adelaide 3), a page from a 1970 BREL publicity brochure. Railway Magazine July and September 1970 featured the Hunslets in a couple of articles.

Colin, I know that many of the barrels of Harp and Guinness ended up in the army base at Bessbrook, the army sealed off the area until all suspicious barrels had been removed and made safe !

Tullamore, train towards Portarlington?

From the Edgar Allen news V37, no 433 July 1958.... "560 had an unfortunate mishap at midnight on 4th August 1947 when, on entering Tramore station, which was crowded with trippers, she failed to stop, and crashed through the end wall of the station, dropping eight feet on to Strand Road. Fortunately she landed in an upright position, ploughing up the roadway, the leading coach being suspended over the broken wall. No one was seriously hurt, there being a few passengers on the train, and these were given first aid treatment; but two Civic Guards (policemen) on duty had narrow escapes, and a parked motor car was damaged." The turntable at Tramore was 18 feet in diameter, the table at Waterford Manor was much larger at 22 feet 3 inches !

The tender pictured with 502? was one of a pair, numbered 407 and 408, built at Inchicore with locomotives 501 & 502 in February and March 1926. They were ordered by the GS&WR but the order was completed by the GSR. They were nicknamed "Biscuit tins" as the coal was contained within a steel plate hopper, set back from the tender outside plating ( to aid sighting lines by the footplate crew ) and the tender did not have coal rails like many other tenders. Water capacity was the second largest on the GSR at 4670 gallons, coal carried was 7 tons 10 cwt, tare weight 49 tons. ( the three 800 class tenders had 5000 gallons and 8 tons of coal.) The ladder with the curved handrail top on the tender rear remains from the time that the three 500's were converted to oil firing for a brief period 1947-48

This pic at Newbridge 15th June 1994 has 157 hauling a failed 015 and Park Royal coach 1944 from Limerick to Inchicore, possibly the last movement of it on IE.
