A fair amount of negatives etc arrived whilst I was sampling Hospital hospitality and I am gradually working through them. There are approx 180 negs taken by the Roy Dennison and the CDRJC slides may also have been his work. CDRJC 1960-06-xx Barnesmore Gap CDRJC 1960-06-xx Strabane, these 2 post closure but before track lifting etc completed. CIE 1958-06-03 Valencia Harbour - I've acquired a donkey and cart for Glengarriff - just needs painting!

The name Wilson Adams rings a bell although in my present state of health/mind this might not mean much. Years ago I used to have an internet group for Irish railways which I closed down when Messenger or somebody stopped providing Group facilities. Some of the lads on here were members. Wilson Adams moniker was K9 and he was OK. I havn't a clue how he managed to become an Administrator of your Group though Tony.

I have been working on getting the late Alex Ford's photos from 1950 processed with the copyright overlays I have agreed to put on in return for being able to use the views on flickr. Three more done today . 2 views of C2 456 at Greystones 29 June 1950 and J5 644 climbing the bank from Sligo Goods with a banker looking at the steam in the distance 31 June 1950

Glengarriff + my former Irish models/layouts
Irishswissernie replied to Irishswissernie's topic in Irish Model Layouts
Join the clan! I've a pile of American narrow gauge books as well especially those in Maine and Colorado. I couldn't resist the Fairlie and I've also got 2 of the Peco FR England locos on order. I can put a 5' x 2' roundy roundy at approx eye level above one of the Glengarriff 'hidden' end boards. -

036 brings the A total up to 7, it could have been more but the horse at Drowes Mill threw a shoe and the Owners decided to upgrade to steam power, however I think they have possibly over-done it but they couldn't resist it. -
There is one on the mixed train here although not next to the coach so the vacuum brake would not be connected (unless the cattle wagon next to the coach was through piped or didn't have such a notice as it hasn't SLNC lettering). Given that the last vehicle looks like the Brake Van it probably didn't matter too much but would have given the passengers the odd shaking.

You can still get the traditional wire in tube from lychett Manor who acquired the old Gem Mercontrol system. As you are living in the UK Tony there shouldn't be any "import" problems. They stopped using the copper tube many years ago when Cornard (now defunct) started manufacturing the same type of system but using plastic type tube. Address/web site on the photo.

Looking at the image of A42 at Dun Laoghaire the overall colours of the view look a bit suspect to me when you compare it to this July 1960 view of J G Dewings which is from an original Kodachrome slide in my collection. How much would this affect the green hue I wonder?

It must have had some kind of stone base for the king pin in the centre and the rail for the wheels at the deck ends but I would have thought the turntable would have been built prior to the mass use of concrete. It looks like the pit has accumulated a fair bit of surplus ballast and weeds over the years. Have you sorted out the dreaded curling transfers yet? Its getting near my birthday/Christmas.

I've been sent a number of negs from the June 1961 Joint Irish Rail Tour, unfortunately not very good quality but there are some interesting and reasonable views. This one reminded me of this thread. An interesting turntable with a pit but no deck or handrails etc. Ballaghadereen 8 June 1961
