  1. Well its down the pipeline and out the other end! Rebecca at 00Works emailed me yesterday to say that she had one 162 (original boiler) ready to go so it will be in the post tomorrow before they go on holiday until the 13th August. On top of this is a Collection of 260 Irish negatives from 1952, 1953 & 1954 are arriving today for evaluation. August is going to be an expensive month, luckily I have restricted my Summer Holiday to a day trip to Saltburn by the Sea for a trip on the Cliff Lift at £1-50 and the Saltburn Miniature Railway £2-50 return ( might be less I think there is a reduction for OAP's)
  2. Just been on the Web site and realised that the additional batch is for the original small boiler version. The 4 numbers listed 109, 195, 162 and 131 according to Clements & McMahon never carried the Z Class Boiler. I missed out first time round so that's another 295 quid in the pipeline!
  3. 6 wheel van 3154 probably at Inchicore given that 3153 is the next van and it looks to be newly re-painted and possibly rebuilt?. 2 more views of Phoenix at Strabane 1959 the colour view is by JG Dewing and the black & white definitely isn't! but the weather probably more typical.
  4. I have checked my Ernie's Archive and can't find one which probably means a couple will turn up in the next year or two!
  5. 20 Ton Brakevan 23596 ca 1964 possibly earlier. Ex GNRI Vacum Cleaning van E or 8 439 , looks like a 6 wheel coach conversion job. again 1964 or earlier. Wexford 2601.
  6. Ooops! I knew that, why the hell did I type 'Melvin' Also amended the era to late 1950's in view of 'Galteemore's' comments.
  7. Ex SLNCR 'Lough Erne' as 27 in UTA days at Belfast Docks. I'm wondering if the crew had nicked one of the Tarpaulins from the containers to cover a leaky roof Later 1950's An unidentified B2 4-6-0 on a mail & passenger train probably on the Dublin - Cork Main line ca 1955. The shelter on the platform may give a clue to the location. Cork, J15 195 on probably a Youghal excursion and also probably from July 1955.
  8. Clonakilty Junction 17 March 1961 JG Dewing. 2 JG Dewing views at Stranorlar May 1959 Railcars 14 & 10
  9. Well I'm a bit gobsmacked over this one! I took this photo of a slate train on my Conwy Falls layout yesterday and added it to one of my flickr albums. Flickr has this unofficial Group called "In Explore" which 'show cases' photos added to Flickr . The 1.6 million selected invariably feature Scenery, People , Animals, Birds, Buildings , structures etc and quite often real railways. I have over the years had quite a few prototype railway views picked by the Group but this is a first for me and I have never seen other model trains etc selected. The layout is nowhere near being finished and features the Bachmann Scenecraft Ffestiniog Porthmadog Bog block which will in due course have a makeover with several additions/alterations planned . I didn't realise I was such an artist - might have to spell my name Braque rather than Brack
  10. I have been working on stone walls made from Das and they are now fixed and had basic painting done. Also ran a 24 wagon train today. Link to video below.

  12. Superb Leslie! My old hunting ground, I'm past making long trips these days but I have amassed 230 odd hours of video and 13000 photos/slides over 25 trips to Switzerland mainly between 1997 and 2009 and I usually put one of my videos on in the early evening for an hour's peace whilst Madame is at work. I have some of them and a few videos on Flickr ; this is the Collection Link to the various albums. https://www.flickr.com/photos/irishswissernie/collections/72157705396264381/ As an aside I was watching the Tour de France yesterday and at a point some 40km from the finish there was an EWS Class 66 lurking in the background! One of the European transfers.
  13. Mallow A4 ca 1960. Newry Edward Street U 67 ca 1959 Narrow Water UG 48 ca 1959 SLNC Glenfarne Railcar A May 1957 JGD
  14. B&CDR No 12 10 June 1949, I think this is possibly York Road as there is an NCC loco on the right and Desmond Coakham 's tome says No 12 spent some time there in 1949 JG Dewing photographer. Cork Albert Quay, F6, 36 June 1957 County Donegal Railways, 'Columbkille' Strabane June 1957.
  15. Challenge accepted Boys! Muttenz , Switzerland April 2008 Mind you I don't remember seeing another but then these days I basically don't remember much! Smoky 66.mp4
  16. GNRI Nr Dunleer , 39 on the Ardee Goods 20 May 1949. Dun Laoghaire , 260, 16 May 1959. Galway 554 5 July 1955.
  17. Its a catch point to protect the line beyond from anything entering the line beyond the junction unless the point is set for the line the catch point is on. In this case the catch point is on the steeply graded line up to the coal sidings and if a wagon got away it would be derailed and (hopefully) not hit anything on the platform line. The points and the ground signal on the right are all worked from that lever frame along the line in front of the building.
  18. Cavan & Leitrim, Arigna branch, 3T near Drumshanbo JGD 16 March 1959. Arigna station June 1957. Belfast & County Down 29 as UTA 229 June 1953.
  19. This is the E Mail Journal 211 - June 2023 Dear Member, It has come to our attention that the printed IRRS Journal for June 2023 had underpaid postage applied to it for our members located in the United Kingdom. Unfortunately Royal Mail raised prices in April and despite checking with the Newry Post Office that everything was correct our contractor was not made aware of this. Some members have reported having to pay a 1.50 GBP surcharge to Royal Mail in order to take delivery. We now attach a pdf version of the Journal for all members so that they can enjoy the content immediately. We apologise for this and hope that you enjoy the June Journal, which is the result of many hours of work by our team of volunteers. If you have any concerns or queries please do not hesitate to contact us info@irrs.ie Kind regards Mark Merrigan Hon Secretary IRRS
  20. I had an E Mail from IRRS a few days ago saying that the Journals for UK members had been posted via Royal Mail in Newry but due to wrong information given by the Newry Post Office they had been posted with insufficient postage and Royal Mail have been sending out a card demanding another £1-50 (this includes an admin fee) to be paid before they will deliver them. I had the Email from IRRS because I am on their E Mail 'mailing' list. Their email had a link to an On-line version of the Journal so I have just read this instead. My postcard from Royal Mail demanding £1-50 arrived a couple of days ago. It says they will return the item to the sender in 18 days if I don't pay it.
  21. Donegal Town Centre 18 May 1958. No trains in this one but there are 2 GNRI single deckers hiding in the back ground and it is a JG Dewing slide. Views like this with a specific date are invaluable in setting the period on a model railway. No double yellow lines, Park your car where you like. Nowadays when you look on Google Street View its a glorified roundabout with a pedestrianised centre , fancy little walls and seats, the trees have grown but to plagiarise Pete Seeger: Where have all the people gone - Gone to Aldi (just round the corner) every one? I prefer Lidl!
  22. The shape of the objects under the tarpaulins suggest that they are the same as the ones on the wagons on the left without tarpaulins. The wording is undecipherable but they could be fertiliser or bagged peat perhaps . Negative is by R M Casserley .
  23. Limerick Junction, Waterford bound Railcar crosses the main line 17 March 1967. Dungarvan B124 on westbound goods 16 March 1967. Kilkenny 15 September 1973.
