  1. Managed to get a quick video of the Olympic Flame as it passed outside the office in Dublin City Centre today. Great to see it in Dublin. Torch was being carried by Tony Sutherland, father of the late Olympic bronze medal winning boxer Darren Sutherland. Anyone else see it today?
  2. Ah, for the craic. 1. 071s 2. A Class 3. 141s 4.121s 5. Hard to choose between the B101s, 113/114 and Cs Steamers are just big teapots anyway.

  4. Such a sad end to a project filled with optimism. It's such a pity that the APT didn't succeed. Now it's descendants race up and down the line they were designed for every day.
  5. Ok, I'm impressed. Did you add any weight to the 73? I have 5 vitrains 47s, and have all been good pullers! The lights are poor though, you're right there!
  6. Saw this recently myself, great find! There were some great BR documentaries made in the 80s in particular, it's a pity we rarely see such things now.

  8. For a minute I thought you did the video mate. I would've been one jealous soul! I have to go over for a diesel gala some day, the locos they have at them are superb.
  9. Absolutely Anto, and by all accounts it's going to cost £110 quid!!! What a joke. I'm sure someone will get around to upgrading the 91 eventually, so think I'll keep the money in the wallet. Pity, as it is one fantastic livery.
  10. Top notch work on the ViTrains 47. They're a lovely loco and when Hattons start knocking them out for next to nothing it's rude not to pick 1 or 5 up!

    As I said in that thread; Well, lets be fair, Hornby Mark 1s and Dapol/Airfix/Hornby Mark 2 air cons weigh next to nothing. Stick them on a rake of your MIR wagons, then I might be impressed. There's no doubting their smoothness, and they are a decent motor bogie, but nothing will beat a central can motor and flywheel drive powering two bogies. If it did, we'd still have our 141s and new 201s powered with a motor bogie. If the railroad bogie suits your needs then fine, I'm still going down the all-wheel drive road. And don't even get me started on traction tyres!!!
  12. When you put things in perspective they aren't that great value for money. You can go to Hattons and pick up much better detailed Bachmann, Vitrains (like the lovely 47 in Anthony's other video) and Heljan diesels on special offer for cheaper or similar prices to a €60 railroad loco and they'll have proper chassis too. The 55 for instance is terrible, too short by a large margin, tooling over 30 years old now, crude detail, HO bogies, non flush glazing. The 73 is still a superb piece of tooling mind you, and offers a cheaper alternative to the Dapol loco. They have pick-ups on both bogies, a major advantage over the old lima locos they come from.   13. It is a great livery alright Anto, I believe model rail mag are doing a limited edition model. It's a pity it hasn't been upgraded though, the hornby 91 isn't the best detail wise.

    I've seen a railroad class 59 run on Bren's old layout and it seriously struggled with even just a few wagons. You just cant beat a proper all wheel drive set up with flywheels and a can motor so that's what I'll be going for. They run smooth and pull well.

    They have little or no pulling power though, even when weighted.

  22. Good to see, Kenny is going to be a tough act to follow considering his status at the club. Attracting big name players is still going to be the big problem though. If they do go down the sporting director road I hope whoever they appoint has an address book full of quality talent.

  25. I noticed the handrails after I put the pics up Rich, and they do go into the doors on the model, schoolboy error! The flanges are very fine, I'm guessing it's to do with the design of the bogies and using scale sized wheels (as opposed to using small wheels like Hornby did on their 50)
