  1. #Railer, #BSGSV, thanks for that info, and I’d love to see a picture Railer if you could lay your hands on it! That’s interesting about a push-pull coach getting the livery also...
  2. Can anyone remember a 121 class locomotive briefly getting an orange & green hybrid suburban livery at some stage in the 1990s? Possibly around the time the DART extensions were being proposed. Did any coaching stock receive similar? (Apologies if I might have asked this before on the previous version of this site)
  3. Another Craven Restaurant, which never made it to the show
  4. Ah that’s the shot I was looking for! Thanks RedRich!
  5. Hi All In the attached picture from Inchicore Works (credit eiretrains.com) it show a 201 in for heavy service, and part of the body shell has been lifted off. Can this be done with the 071s and 141/181s if required? I know that they have many doors along the side of the body, which probably makes it easier to service, but can the entire or part of the hood be removed also? And just to clarify, I,m referring to the real thing and not the models! http://eiretrains.com/Photo_Gallery/Railway Stations I/Inchicore/IrishRailwayStations.html#Inchicore_20060908_023_CC_JA.jpg
  6. That's interesting! But I'm wondering what the cost will be?!
  7. George, my own personal experience is that the show is well worth going to and has improved greatly over the years. Depends what you are looking for, I’ve picked up lots of small unusual items in the second hand bins, especial vehicles and accessories. Lots of new items also, but no cheaper than what you would buy online.
  8. Not quite continental modelling, but just came across this video on YouTube of an abandoned original Eurostar set, sitting in a siding and vandalized and graffitied. Just wondering if anyone knows the location, and how this set ended up here. Is it going into preservation, or refurbishment or something? I thought they were all to be scrapped.
  9. Sorry Rich! Still getting my head around this new site layout. Thats outstanding, and I apologise for jumping to the wrong conclusion there. Well done to IWT!
  10. I assume you mean IRM in the above statement? Unless the lads have diverted the IWT container train to Blackrock for a truely stunning entrance on Saturday afternoon?! To reiterate Rich's sentiments, well done to all involved!
  11. Jesus lads, Bundoran looking well there today!
  12. The other thing I’ve been working on over the summer is a depot for my PW machines. This is basically something similar to the depot behind Kildare station. The frame and shell is nearly complete, and I tried to get a little bit of detail on the inside. Once it’s all assembled and painted up I’ll add signage and gutters and as much small detail as possible, then get some track down and build a yard scene around the building!
  13. So in the next picture you can see the undercarriage of the body and I’m exploring if I can get a motor onboard without taking up too much space. On the real thing the engine is sitting up on the deck and a shaft goes down through the floor to power just one axle. If I could replicate this I’d be happy. The other option is in the cab, but I think a detailed cab would really make this model so want to avoid that. Any thoughts or suggestions?
  14. It’s been a while but I’m back at the work bench for the first time in ages, and I damn well intend to finish something for once this autumn! I have a corner in the shed that’s gonna have a small terminus station and some permanent way sidings so that I can store all of the PW and yellow machines in one place. So I’ve decided to tackle Irish Rail number 734, the odd looking sandite machine that lives in Kildare. I’m working off measurements that I’ve garnered from lots of photos, and if it looks reasonably to scale then I’m happy enough!
  15. I’ve just been rooting around the interwebs and incredibly (or maybe not?) I came across this piece of bedtime reading. It’s simply called ‘Rule Book’ and is 392 pages or rules relating to the operation of trains and on-track plant on the island of Ireland. A quick skim through and on page 358 for example, there is an interesting list of current PW machines. https://www.translink.co.uk/Documents/Corporate/publications/rule%20book/140401%20Rule%20Book%202007%20%202013%20Mergeda.pdf
  16. Thanks Andy and Garfield! Yes, the Mashima is tbe way to go. To follow uo on Andys post, High Level Kits Limited (http://173.254.28.51/~highlev3/chris/Pages/gearboxguidepage.html) have a great tool on their site to answer exactly the question I posed at the start of this thread.
  17. Hi guys Is there such a thing as a motor that would drive or connect to just a single axle? I'm thinking of building a piece of on track plant, something like the old plasser sandite unit. Any thoughts?
  18. I'm looking out the back window here one last time to make sure everything is tied down before this hurricane thing hits, and what pops into my mind? Tonys new shed!!! After all your hard work I hope you thought to put a few bolts in the ground! Stay safe out there lads and Tony, I'll say a prayer to St. Theresa (Mannion) for the safe passage of your shed through Monday!
  19. I have been threatening to do an n-gauge layout for a long time, but with all of the rtr stuff out there now in OO I’ve decided to stick with that. Here is something that might be useful for anyone thinking of going down this route. I been messing about with this for years now, but I don’t think I have the skill set or the patience to see these conversations through. 1. Shapeways 201. Class 66 seems to be a good match. 2. Shapeways C Class and 121s. Atlas switchers alco s2 seem to be a good fit. Steps at each end would need to come off, and couplers attached. Maybe to bogies? 3. Shapeways A class. This is a class 31 frame sitting under the shapeways body. I’ve filed the motor frame back as much as I can but it’s still about 8mm too long. I think there is 4mm that can be taken from each bogie so it probably can be made work.
  20. I agree with Richie here, those boxes look like they are made of plasticard and won't last too long. Again, great to see a local company getting the business, but they will need heavy reinforcement if they are to last any length of time. Link to new Translink MPV as mentioned above: http://www.belfastlive.co.uk/news/belfast-news/translink-spend-4m-tackling-leaf-13719572
  21. I'm guessing they are a version of the spoil wagons that IE have. Primarily used to take old ballast away but sometimes used to bring fresh ballast to site. The IE ones are based on 20' container ISO design so that they can be removed fron the bogie wagon if necessary. The low capacity you mention relates to the low sides of the boxes. I think this is to allow on track plant (rail mounted excavators for example) easy access. Hope this helps. Any pics?
  22. Thank you all for your interest. Thread now closed. I'll email individuals in the next few minutes. Regards, David.
  23. Thanks Railer and Blaine!
