If my memory serves me correctly, JHB posted some previous snippets from CUISLE NA TIRE in his 'CATACOMBS' series a few years back. I see a man transfared from Waterford to Bray as a loco cleaner in the extract above - served as a driver in Bray later - as did his son & brother. Its a small world

Just a further bit of information regarding the A class on Derry & other GNR roads : On Sunday 02/07/1961 2 x "Hills of Donegal" excursions ran Dublin - St. Johnston. One was a 3 pce railcar - Amiens St - St J - ety to Derry & return The second train was A19 and coaches - 0900 ex K/bridge - Amiens St - St J 1340 [ ety to Derry for servicing- rtn to St J at 1725 ] Departure back to Dublin at 1800 [ see IRRS JUR 186, p 209 for details, plus photo of train at St. J ] BELFAST/CAVAN/OMAGH were cleared for A class in May 1959 A47 operated a train from Bangor on 18/06/1960 - another was in Warrenpoint 16/10/60 In one of his many articles on locomotives in IRRS Journal Dan Ranaghan notes that the 1960 rail closures left 4 locos spare for reassignment - 3 C class [ 2 Kerry, plus Cavan?] & the Carrickmacross A class [JOURNAL 91]

Unless they have changed, the WEEKDAY paths ex WTFD used to be 1130 & 1535 [1340/1900 K/DARE] From the west [WEEKDAYS] due K/DARE 1157/1550. Somebody told me recently that they saw the westbound 1130 logs on a Wednesday - it used to work twice a week - not sure about the present container operations

I think an A Class used to do an odd turn to St. JOHNSTON/PORTHALL on summer Sunday excursions in the late 50's from Amiens Street There may have been an A Class based in Carrickmacross in the late 50's also.

"FROM LIMERICK TO FOYNES" - an 8 page spread by NICK DEACON in the May edition of RAILWAY BYLINES. On a quick glance - some very nice photographs

I get the impression that both BRILL/R - BYLINES send a collection of old photographs on a subject to certain individuals to write notes & captions on the subject matter. While these people probably know an fair bit in general about UK railway subjects - it's a completely different ball game over this side of the Irish Sea.

Did a Dundalk 2600 set not work a Sunday relief PORTADOWN - CONNOLLY [ about 1800 ] for a while ? I can't put a date on it - maybe in late 1990's.
