Cast iron 'engine' plate according to the catalogue! I went a bit mad and bought the Attymon Junction/Loughrea staff - a nice souvenir for me never having managed a trip on the branch. Who knows, I might even hold on to it but probably not.

Another old friend resurfaced at Victor Mee's Belturbet saleroom this evening and was knocked down for €110 plus commission to the unwary buyer. Got to love the accuracy - less than three minutes in and DART is mentioned as Dublin Area Rapid Transport and then the reporter buys a ticket to Pearse Street. Gotta love the standard of journalism on RTE - nearly as good as the company that they are reporting on.

In fairness the trolley was and probably still will be a joke. I rarely if ever bought anything from it as it is only for the little people - I yearn for proper snack/dining facilities but I won't hold my breath. In recent times I always stocked up at the shop in the subway beneath the suburban platforms at Connolly when I had the kids with me in preference to the trolley. God help us, even in the pre-Mk.II. days one could get a proper drink on the Rosslare. Even the grotty bar in a corner of a Park Royal offered a bit of crack to us regulars on the evening run home to Bray. There was an old accommodation crossing just north of Shankill that used to be a source of entertainment - a bad joint or whatever there used to give the train a right jolt and the regulars used to brace themselves for impact whereas an unfortunate newcomer would often have their drink all over themselves.

Silver LOL....you must have been travelling in Great Southern & Western days....CIE never aspired to anything more than stainless steel - I still have a teaspoon!

Self-published (2016) Covers the building of the lines radiating out of the city, the places they served, the people that built them and the people that worked them. The social history spans more than 170 years, taking in the Great Famine of the 1840s, the Great War, The 1916 Rising, The War of Independence, The General Strike, the Civil War, The Emergency, and the bitter Railway Strike of 1950/51. Large format softcover (12" x 8.5"), 464 pages, ill.with colour and b/w photographs. Like new. Signed. €60. Out of print and the author has assured me that there will not be a reprint.

In 2005 An Post commissioned Irish artist, Vincent Killowry, to produce a series of illustrations to mark the 150th Anniversary of the Completion of the Dublin Belfast Railway. A series of stamps were produced from the illustrations as well as a limited edition (750 sets) of 5 high quality prints using some of the images. Each print has been signed and numbered by the artist. In addition, an original postage stamp is affixed underneath each print and cancelled with the official 1st day of Issue postmark. When sold in 2005 this set cost €100 (original An Post invoice comes with the prints). Ideal for framing (each print measures 8.5 inches x 12 inches) and it is unusual to find an unframed set. In mint condition the set comes with a certificate of authenticity from An Post. Card outer folder shows some slight wear. €100 includes registered/insured mail in a strong card envelope.
