  1. Does anyone know a safe year that one could use as a guide where Hornby rolling stock and locomotives should be ok to run on code 75? I know I am looking at code 83 over here in the US but I should be use that as a guide for this question. I have Irish, British and American stock so it is whatever I am in a mood to run with. I will not part with any rolling stock as well before Murphy Models, I was getting some Hornby stock and I will not part with it. Even if i cannot run it on code 83 I am keeping the model and I am crazy enough to buy it again and keep the older one!!!
  2. Lads, Interesting that this topic came up as I am about a month out from actually starting on my layout here in the US. I went to my local store yesterday who have only code 83 from Peco and code 100 from Atlas. I would prefer to go with Peco but is there much of a difference besides the height of the rail between code 83 and code 75? Have no track plan yet but I am about finished prepping the room where it is going in and well I am also looking in a couple of weeks of getting baseboards to get going, all going well. Mark
  3. @DiveController cool dude, I am sure that the lads at IRM will take care of it and get your order shipping to you. I can keep you updated with mine if you wish. I hope that you do not have the same issues I am having once your order hits this country. I do have rotten luck with orders from Europe... Always something..
  4. @DiveController so when my order shipped from IRM, I tracked the provided order number with Royal Mail and gave it a couple of days after last movement in the UK, It then appeared up on the USPS tracking website in "ISC New York (USPS)" facility which in the past I was told was "Customs". I was told also that it can stay there for like 30 days until it gets processed, so I thought, ok let's see how long it stays there. So then there was movement to "Stamford CT Distribution Center" on June 30th. I thought, "great movement, that baby is on it's way to Chicago", so on July 1st, 2nd, 3rd 4th and 5th all I have for tracking updates was "In transit to next facility" when I tracked it on the USPS website. And there have been no updates on the tracking of my package since then. So I thought I need to open up a case with USPS to see where the heck this is? So I did that on Tuesday, got an email on that evening, "we are investigating it and we will get back to you". I heard nothing so first thing this morning, I called my local distribution center and I opened up a case with them on this. 30 minutes before my earlier post, I got an email, my package is at customs. When I called this morning, I was told the weight of the package and they commented, "for the size of the package, that is heavy" I was thinking great, they think there is something fishy on this one.. So my wait continues, I am hoping that someone there sees the package, do whatever ( I hope without any damage) and let it on it's merry way to me and let's get it here already. I do have 2 other orders from IRM and one of them is stuck in New York once again at the "ISC New York (USPS)" So I am hoping that one gets released and that be on it's merry way also. My other order, IRM are working with me on that one so I am not too worried on that one at the moment, so that is fine. For my case Guinness Wagons, there is nothing IRM can do for me, any time I ask any of the lads, they have been great. I am just curious with your order as with mine is going through some crazy stuff at the moment, hence here and there I ask you on your order. I am not aware of anyone else on here that lives in North America but ah sure with a bit of luck, we will get our orders, I am hoping shortly. Either we have bad luck at the moment or it is what is going on with Covid-19 but the east coast is like not the hotspots here anymore.. I am dying to get them here as I am admiring everyone else that brought them that has a video of them or pictures of them as they do look awesome.
  5. So @DiveController, dude I hope that your order has some movement, I have found out that mine went to another customs facility in CT. The wait continues.
  6. @DiveController Mine did not get delivered yet but mine are stuck last tracking somewhere in New York looks like they have made it out of US Customs. I have opened up a case with USPS to see if they can track down where they are at, as there was updates advising me that my package was apparently, "In transit to the next facility" for 4 straight days and then over the last 2, nothing. Have yours ever shown up on USPS tracking website? Mine will have been 3 weeks since they shipped from IRM, tomorrow.
  7. Interesting comments to this one, I know when IRM did a couple of runs of their bubbles, it made sense as they have the molds for them, provided that there was interest in the market for them, and I think they sold well for them. I was thinking of them with reference to the 141's and the 181's and asking, which lead to this thread, what would it take for someone to do another re-run of them locomotives. When I am looking at the prices that the 141's are making on ebay lately, I was thinking, it is not something to consider? Definitely not this year, my wallet is taking some hammering at the moment, but there seems to be a demand for them. That is why I was thinking, hmm in the next few years? I can see from what Wrenneire has said now when the quantity of a required run and that is a huge cost 250 to 300 Euro. I do not mean to scare anyone over there but there are locomotives sold over here in the US for approx $300 a pop and they do contain DCC sound in them for that. Not like the Hornby TTS sound but like for example, Athearn have a couple of models I have seen for this price with Tsunami sound decoders in them. People would expect to have all the bells and whistles if they are paying 250 euro for a loco, including I. So with a cost of a run without DCC sound built in, would be hard to swallow for 250 euro. I know there was a period of a few years where the Lima 201's were also making crazy money on ebay at the time, then when Paddy Murphy announced the re-run of them, the prices dropped a lot on them. Even those today look like people are looking for crazy money for those once again today. From comments I have read over the years, the quality of those is nothing compared to the ones that he did the re-run on. They are an example of a re-run done. I know that there are still some new available to purchase which I did not know and I instantly pulled a trigger on a few. Going back to IRM, I can see them release more Liners, Taras, ballast wagons etc in the future.. It makes sense that there is the possibility they can make money from molds that they own. Of course the lads at IRM are the only ones that know what future plans for releases they have in the pipeline, after what they have announced they were going to release.. Well that is my 2 cents on this one.
  8. What determines a manufacturer to look at re-releasing a model, I am referring to the 141. From the prices they are fetching lately on ebay, is it not worth by anyone to look at producing another run of them? To be honest, I am pretty tapped out at the moment with the 121's and I would like to order more A class, but I would look at getting some more 141's and 181's if there was another run, in the next couple of years? I know that we are asking for more and more of new models not released yet but think I am not the only one that would look at getting more of any other models that have been released already. I have admired all the models that Paddy Murphy has given us, as for any other models I have purchased from other manufacturers. I cannot thank them all enough for all their efforts in bringing us what they have in the way of models for the Irish market, fair play to ye all. Mark
  9. @DiveController I punched in my tracking number provided by IRM to track with Royal Mail. I also placed it into my Shopify app. Once it gets shipped by IRM, I usually set email alerts for that package with USPS about a day later, so when it arrives over here, then I can track it with USPS, I set up email notification with USPS. I called USPS before when they held an order of mine for 2 or 3 weeks to be told even though it "passed through facility, ISC New York (or Chicago), they can hold it for up to 30 days before releasing the package". My last order from IRM came to the Chicago facility and I am sorry to say this, it was slower to get released from Chicago than New York. Sad as I live in the south west suburbs of Chicago. Lol come to think of it, my last order came to Chicago and it may have been also delivered but on their end, still with them. It can get a little frustrating as there have been times I have used a tracking number provided by a seller for something I have purchased from home or UK and it turns out that was not the tracking number used by USPS for tracking the items, ( I have no idea how this was the case, but it was). I think if you see that it hit a facility over here, then it is the waiting game we are playing to get it released and finally delivered.
  10. Mine are stuck almost a week in New York with the USPS processing center... can be held up to 30 days before processing... Apparently delivery is supposed to be today, now sure how that is possible when it has to get to the mid west.
  11. 12. Hi Fran, I am curious that is all, will they get dispatched from Ireland or the UK? An Post are shipping no parcels to the US at the moment, hence why I am wondering where they are shipping from. Mark M
  13. Can I confirm if 189.95 is indeed the cost that other retailers are going to charge for a Class 121?
  14. Yeah I did not buy anything from this site, I was concerned as I knew something was up, I have ordered all my Murphy Models models from a dealer in Ireland so buying Irish.

  16. After the Guinness kegs, I am trying to get me another 201...
  17. @irishthump Thanks again dude for getting back to me, I am checking into the group that you suggested and well we shall see what happens.. I am trying to get what I can over here as I am finding that in the last few orders from Europe are getting held longer before they get delivered to me. I was about 3 or 4 weeks waiting for the Liners to get to me and it was another long wait for me to get the ferts. It it not the fault on IRM for any delay in my orders getting to me and anytime that I have asked them with my orders, they have been more than helpful whenever I reach out to them in all fairness to them. We shall keep an ear to the ground and wait for the A class to come available and I am sure that Fran and the rest of the team at IRM will be able to answer the question on the sound file for them, closer to the time they are due out. By any chance, anyone know anymore on the class 121's and the sound decoders in them? I thought that I read somewhere that more news on that is pending? I could be wrong... Edit - then I read the information on the Murphy Models website and maybe this is what the 121's will use? https://www.amazon.com/58419-LokSound-Decoder-Speaker-Programming/dp/B07RVHRY3K/ref=sr_1_3?dchild=1&keywords=esu+loksound+esu+sound+decoder+21+pin&qid=1586315836&sr=8-3 Mark
  18. @irishthump I have no issues in trying out programming a DCC decoder. I live in the US and the main reason why I started to look into this is I have when the A class and the 121's are released, close to 50 locomotives that are either DCC ready or I need to hard wire them. They do range from British steam and some diesel, Irish and American locomotives and hence as when I get to building my layout, I have to also get a DCC decoder for all of them. May as well get a few here and there and get sound installed. When I do this, I would like to source my decoders locally, which I live near a model store that seems to be a dealer for ESU decoders. I have not gotten to check out the store in a bit, but I will get there. (not getting into the question of my choice of locos, I love the engineering of steam locos from the UK, of course nothing like an Irish diesel, grown to like the American locos also) I seem not to be able to get v4.0 decoders over here as I have looked online for them. I am waiting to see if I can get the same decoders over here as I am advised that for my 071 and 201 I would need to get a 97418 but that is a challenge to source over here. I have tried to setup an account with ESU but with what is going on with Covid 19, that could be a while before they get back to me on my account activation as I am trying to see if I can use 58419 or 58449 can take the place of 97418. I would then look to upgrade my 141s and 181s. I meant to ask Fran at IRM if and when the A class comes out and the decoders become available for them, if it is possible to purchase the sound file for them. I was hoping to visit the homeland in June but that is up in the air so if that does not happen, some of the money for that trip may get, "re-assigned"..... I so thank all the replies that I have gotten on this topic and if it is assistance to anyone else, i am glad, please if someone else has something to shed more light on the ESU decoder question I have, then thanks in advance. Mark
  19. Man some people have issues, an intentional derailment of a train - https://abc7.com/usns-mercy-coronavirus-train-crash-derailment/6069395/?fbclid=IwAR0OjuE6RIDqK8lHYLsOG-L3CQHK_uCb3VP4UvcrpNLKQTfxp4kzpwWXn4U
  20. Hi All, Thanks for all the feedback, once I am done with my day of work (which is about to start), Noel I shall be watching those vids that you have advised, not at all sorry that I asked the question. After I asked the question, I actually did some googling around and I came across that the ESU sound chips, maybe for where I am located, could be the route to go as I maybe able to source them locally. I came across these downloads for the 201 and the 071 from the ESU website: http://www.esu.eu/en/downloads/sounds/generation-4/loksound-v40-oem?no_cache=1&tx_esudecoderprojects_pi1[filterLoco]=2&tx_esudecoderprojects_pi1[filterCountry]=IE&tx_esudecoderprojects_pi1[sorting]=dateD And a little more googling, I found out how to program a ESU with a computer and also I would need this board - http://www.esu.eu/en/products/lokprogrammer/ and a how to program an ESU sound chip - Do in trying to see if I can get new 4.0 chips, I found out that I cannot source ESU V4.0 DCC sound chips as they are out of production, however with an ESU chip, apparently the software that you would need Lokprogrammer, is able to convert the files intended for the V4.0 to V5.0. This is the URL for the LokProgrammer - http://www.esu.eu/en/downloads/software/lokprogrammer/. This is the URL from ESU that mentions conversion for a 4.0 to a 5.0 - http://www.esu.eu/en/support/tips-tricks/lokprogrammer-software-50x/random-functions-after-conversion/. So I am not sure what functionality I would loose if I was to get these and program them myself? However I have another question, the actual 5.0 chip, I am unsure if anyone here has looked at getting a Loksound 5.0 for any of the Irish locomotives, but would ESU Loksound 58419 chip or the 58449 be the one that I would go with? Also, can I purchase the sound files from WheelTappers - http://www.wheeltappersdccsounds.co.uk/ for each one? I cannot remember if IRM's A class will be using a Loksound chip as with the upcoming 121's, if they will be using Loksound 5.0 chips as well, but would they also be something I could purchase if I can get the sound decoders myself? All stay safe and take care. Mark
  21. Hi, I am wondering in 2020 if i was thinking of getting DCC sound for my 141s, 181s, 071s and my 201s, what DCC sound decoders can I buy at the moment for them? I am interested but I have 15 locos at the moment with no DCC sound, it would be nice to have them upgraded if I can.
  22. I have to agree with Doctorpan and Ironrod, paying up front for me is ideal and I am able to collect most of the models i want. If IRM is trying to move away from pre-paying for upcoming releases, are we able to order, when they come available and pay off for the items when we can pay them off by installments?
  23. Uh Oh... a delay, guess I know what that means... time to plan an increase my order for 4...... Fran, thanks for letting us know. I am perfectly fine with a delay, it actually helps me out, in my quest for ordering more, once the 121's are out.
  24. Fair play to the person that discovered this layout and refused to tear it down - https://www.goodnewsnetwork.org/man-pays-to-save-worlds-largest-train-set-to-the-public/
  25. I noticed that the 2019 awards are now open for voting. https://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index.php?/topic/150320-british-railway-modelling-awards-for-2019/ Saw Accurascale and IRM in there..... Lads best of luck!!!
