Definitely odd looking indeed! Mind you, if one were to be pedantic, many other aspects of that livery are also incorrect, from the orange floor of the gangways, to the shade of orange, to the font of the numerals and lack of black shading!

A little pedantic, Jonathan. But true :D

Oh no, no no no - that modern logo on the front of 071 looks terrible! Totally ruins the 'retro' livery

Completely agree. Just looks so wrong, and kind of contradicts the whole point of having it painted in the retro livery.

Now this, is a different story...

The culprit was the sprung couplers failing to return to the straight position.

Exactly, this is certainly an issue, and most likely the cause of Derek's derailing problems.

I have found, if the coupler is pulled so far in either direction there's a good chance it will lock, and not return to it's original position.

The most annoying part is, it can happen sporadically and to any coach in a rake, it's not always the same one.

  4. Excellent stuff. You can tell that some serious time and effort was put in to achieve that finish. Time consuming no doubt, but always beats just giving the model a blast of an airbrush.

I realise this is a shot in the dark but in the same vein if you do not ask you do not get.

I'm looking for an NIR liveried 201 if someone would wish to do a swap for an intercity liveried 201 I have.

Thank you advance and please feel free to PM me if you are interested.

    Sorted.

    Result. That was quick!

It always occurred to me that IRM could easily replicate at least one variety of the fuel oil wagons by using their existing cement bubble ‘flat’ and modifying their weed spray tanks to sit on top with some minor adjustments and tweaks, although perhaps easier said than done! 😉

I like your thinking. Sounds very good to me :D

  7. Job done. The most time consuming part of this little project, was trying to cut the doors without causing any noticeable damage. Fitting them back in place, in an open position was also a pain, but worth it.

The mirrors also turned out ok. Why the model hadn't got any in the first place is anyone's guess.

Adding the passengers and driver has made a big difference. Makes for an interesting scene.

Wheels were also painted and weathered, and given a blast of matt varnish.

Quite happy with how this has turned out.
