Excellent stuff Kieran

Yes... I think those posts answer it all. My own recollections suggest the second one reappeared after they were re-engined.
When running with just one, you could see some sort of fitting indicating the position where the other should be.
Gsr800 - just one got the darker green - a late aberration to normal livery practice of the day, as it had the simplified lining applied to things of lighter green. I think it was A46 but I'd need to check. It didn't keep it long, as black'n'tan beckoned!
Thanks John. I think the darker green looked better, the lighter green(in my opinion) didn't suit them very well.

I want to use Continuous Spring Beam suspension, which is meant to allow all axles to float, and is the same system that I'm using on the "S" class. The J26 frames have to be modified for this.
Wouldn't the brass chassis be better for that?

In those days, Harry, they only had the one window wiper. (A point for modellers, perhaps). Operating practices were still very much geared towards "drivers side" and "fireman's side". Same with the "C"'s, and also the B101s. The B121s had two from new, and while I can't remember for sire, I'd be 99% certain the 141 / 181s had two as well.
When were they fitted with the other John?
I remember seeing a picture of an A in green(one of the ones with the darker shade methinks) with both wipers. I think it was 1958-9.

From a new book now being worked on.

Steam you say? Count me in.
Note A7 is missing a window wiper, along with, from what I can see, her window frames too.

Some 29000s were vandalised on the Achill line last night, with the words"bring back the D16s!" Crudely spray painted. Makeshift fortifications have been made by the vandals, who had rifles, old Lima coaches labelled"to throw" and multiple empty oil barrels. After complaints from the trade unions, 5 D16s were built, along with multiple 6 wheelers. The fortifications soon disappeared.
CIE dark green and blackntan has been brought back. The 141s have been rebuilt, and two were given to NIR,to assist the remaining Hunslet.
The new "standard locomotives" have proved very successful, and are to be scrapped next year.

IE awoke the ghost of Watson, to design and build a new batch of 400s,to help the Meabh and the Maglevs on the Cork line, but they then found out why they were rebuilt, so then awoke Bazin too, who built the 500s again as well. IE then realise the futility of diesels, and approach John Beaumont for drawings.
He agrees, but only on the term that he can blow up a bunch of 22000s and then take pictures of the wreckage, with his Australian camera:D

For a moment I thought this was the 'What if' thread...
Gets a bit worrying when you realise your fooling yourself...

The Achill line is to be reopened, worked by 29000 class...
A line between Belfast and Baltimore is opening on the 30th February next year.
NIR is considering buying a new batch of AEC and BUT railcars, with IE, to run the line.
5 new Beyer Garrets are being built for the tough gradients of the T&D,with the cattle specials, for the fair of dingle next month.
50 new "standard" 2-6-0 locomotives are being built, to take over services from the ICRs...

Meabh has been removed from Cultra, to help haul the MK4s
Merlin is going to haul the refurbished enterprise.
The turfburner, is being rebuilt, after The directors of IE were given good good shouting at by the ghost of Bullied, to work the Tara mines!
The 071s are to be reduced to minimal duties, after IE announced that 20 new J15s were to be built.

Exactly. Only someone with a very oblique political view, or an utter inability to count, could possibly argue any benefit in privatisation of anything to do with railways in Ireland. The bottom line is this - with no competition possibilities, no way for a private company to actually make a clear profit, the state or local authorities would have to pick up the tab in some shape or form. So they'd be paying what they're paying now - PLUS the private companies directors salaries.
The whole concept would be so crass, inefficient and expensive that we need to ensure no politicians are reading this!
Their on to us lads! Scamper!

10-coupled engines not catered for, though - bad news for builders of 9Fs and WD 2-10-0s, as well as German classes 44/45/50/52/58/94/95, etc.
They seem to have a 10 coupled one now...

I'm thinking of taking the chassis apart, and buying the Poppy's wood tech jig and building it around that.

I've elected to use the nickel silver frames, but they're not exactly friendly for what I have in mind...
I didn't know what the spacer bars were until it was too late, so I went through a lot more hardship than I needed too. Are you using compensation? They wouldn't be easy for that.

Actually, what if Irish rail was privatised, into 2-3 different companies, maybe in 2011?
-
Check the wheel spacing, mine used to do that but adjusted the spacing and she ran grand till the other problem above started.
Thanks for the advice, it's working well now.

How's your j26 getting on anyway?

Could be something that could have been bogging around an airport or wholly road transport-related, but less likely.
Get your briar hook out and uncover the other end.
Right, I'll be back!

It looked more like a roundel from further away!
In the close-up, it looks like it's infilled with white as well...
The spring loaded label holder would be an almost sure sign it is of railway origin.
In the case, minister, it seems we have ruined the status quo!
John will be baffled!

Forcing CIE to retain rather disused lines would have been more likely to weaken rather than strengthen the overall position of the railways. Possibly leading an acceleration of line closures and reduction in investment in 63 & 64 as the Board struggled with its legal duty to achieve break even by December 1964.
This might have had a positive side for the Irish Economy in forcing the Government to look seriously at breaking up CIE and liberalising surface transport.
The option of giving County Councils first refusal on closed lines never gained a foothold in Ireland, Farrafore-Killorglin or Listowel-Tralee owned by Kerry Council and operated by an independent operator would have been difficult if not impossible to establish with CIEs near monopoly position.
So.. Re privatise?

Great stuff John. An excellent resource for me, and anyone else who would be building the kit.
