I remember during a nighttime foot plate trip on the Tralee line around 1980 when the driver turned off the headlights in order to show me what what it was like running steam or the early diesels. Hurling through the darkness with the speedometer showing 60mph was quiet unnerving!

The traffic went to Arklow for a while in 1992 for some reason. Four wheel flats and open top containers were used. There is a video somewhere on you tube. -

What traffic is expected on the line and do Irish Rail have rolling stock to handle it? -
Lyons Tea had a small store in the North Kerry yard in Tralee on a bank between the gantry crane and county council tar depot. Prior to the introduction of the 20 foot containers I remember seeing 10 foot containers with Lyons Tea markings in open wagons in use for this traffic.

As these models DCC ready?

I never thought anyone would produce the mags so anything is possible. Something based on a 20 foot flat could open the door to all sorts of wagons Including oil tanks, container flats, bagged cement and ore wagons in the future.

Regarding the AEC railcars, Were they ever used on the Mallow Waterford line?

A15 leads a Waterford bound goods in 1970. By this time some wagons were appearing in brown and vac braked flats Lancashire flats and containers were being introduced. The A class re-engining programme had begun but A15 still retains its Crossley engine.

After a week of rain today is warm and dry so I took the opportunity to do some painting in the garage. Shown are the Dapol Prestwin container flat conversion, an ex GN 12 ton van built from a Parkside kit, a Provincial Wagons ex GN van and scratchbuilt ex GS insulated van.

Almost ready for the paint shop. The IRM and C Rail containers have easily removable floors allowing them to sit on the Dapol floor avoiding the need to remove the base for the silos. The white plasticard was added for stability and strength and thee cent coins were added for weight. The buffers are from Dart Castings.

Very little modeling was done over the summer months but the arrival of fall weather has led to a resurgence of activity in the wagon shop. Work is progressing on two ex GS wooden bodied vans and Dapol Prestwin underframe is being modified to better represent a CIE container flat for an IRM container.

Probably a marketing scam by IRM to sell a new three pack!

On a number of occasions I unintentionally explored the extremities of the Berlin U ban and S ban lines in the early hours of the morning while living there in the 80's and 90's!
