  1. I went to this today, and almost met Mike 84D, but he was caught by security when trying to leave his house this morning.. Ballyconnell Road was there. And plenty more interesting stuff.

  3. Why are there lights in fridges, but not in freezers?
  4. I've run 12V grain-of-wheat bulbs in series pairs off 16V AC, so 8V across each one - plenty of light still, and a nice colour - a slight problem if a bulb does blow, as it will disconnect the remaining good bulb - but, then, I've never actually had one blow yet.
  5. If you're running filament bulbs, then there's something to be said for dropping the voltage slightly - they'll last a lot longer and, I think, the slightly yellowy light looks better, too.
  6. Why can you buy prune juice, when you never see plum juice, and yet a prune is a dried plum?
  7. Marvellous work - a great improvement. It does make one wonder if Dapol themselves might be interested in the idea...?
  8. It's OK. Take your time. ..and tell 'her' that I said you can have an extra half-crown pocket money this week, for being a good lad..
  9. Cleared now. 09.20 Cork to Heuston delayed as tree down on line near Portlaoise. Crew en route to clear line, update shortly & Tree cleared from line at Portlaoise, 09.20 Cork to Heuston running 60 mins late via Twitter.
  10. Could be this - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PKP_class_SM48 ? Or similar... ..I can't quite make out the number on the front..
  11. Expo do nice, stainless steel rules for a few quid... ..in all the common scales.
  12. That's virtually jewellery.
  13. A bit cheaper and non-toxic - http://www.gaugemaster.com/item_details.asp?code=DLBD-38 - might be slightly less dense, though, I suppose.
  14. Excellent! I assume that you have the track at mains voltage to keep them at a distance? And I do like that 'flat' near the rear of the Enterprise - very realistic.
  15. I remember seeing an article on the Bodmin layout some years ago that mentioned its Red Arrow radio control system. http://www.redarrowcontrol.co.uk/
  16. H0 + N dual-gauge rail is available. Dual-gauge railways do exist in real life.

Do remember that, if the slope is on a curve that will add to the resistance, you can have a steeper straight slope than a curved one. I made a couple of slopes using the full eight feet of a piece of hardboard to make the 'boxes' - with a 2½ inch rise we had no real problems, running all sorts of stuff - but, they were dead straight.

About an inch a yard seems just about OK. There is the DCConcepts magnetic traction enhancer available now - if you do require a steep slope. http://www.gaugemaster.com/item_details.asp?code=DCDCX-PBVP
  19. We have discussed this before - http://irishrailwaymodeller.com/showthread.php/188-K-s-00-scale-white-metal-locomotive-kits-(1970s) .
  20. Or a shot one, if you're doing a UK West Country layout - at £4,000 a hit - you could have a person shot for that much..
