  1. Thanks Derek, l opted for 12mm birch ply which will be fixed to a 69 x 12mm timber frame. This should be sufficient and not too heavy.
  2. As a carpenter of many years and Carpentry Instructor I was never a fan of MDF however our local timber supplier sells Chinese made plywood that is sub-standard and the veneers are prone to peeling after cutting. There seems to be no glue between the layers. I've steered clear of it at all time. I know the pro's and cons of an mdf baseboard but is there any one on the forum who could comment on whether or not they experienced any REAL operational problems with it? I'm thinking of building a 6'x3' N-gauge layout and considering 12mm MDF on 12mm x 70mm battens - is this adequate?
  3. Seagoebox, thanks for this informatìn!
  4. Apologies, I have just noticed the photo is dated 14th May 1952 and it is the Derry to Belfast service it is hauling.
  5. Has anybody got any knowledge of when No.81 "CARRICKFERGUS CASTLE" was put into use on the Derry Road? I'm guessing it was post GNR(I) era and UTA.
  6. On Thursday night I opened a summer long exhibition of GNR(I) railway memorabilia in Strule Arts Centre, Omagh. The exhibition which has been supported by Headhunter's Museum, Enniskillen will run throughout the summer months. The opening was attended by over 70 railway enthusiasts and this was followed by my talk on Omagh's rich railway history. There were visitors from Belfast, Cookstown, Enniskillen, Strabane, Donegal and Dungannon.

  7. My query is related to bridges crossing the Derry Road within a 5miles radius of Omagh, thank you
  8. Is there anything in print showing GNR(I) bridges and bridge numbers?
  9. Anyone know of what carriages made up the Royal Train during the 1897 visit?
  10. PRONI in Belfast have an extensive GNR(I) wagon book of drawings as I photographed many of them
  11. I actually have that pic of No.74 and didn't realise it, taken under the footbridge!
  12. I’m looking for acrylic display cases that would protect some of my models during an exhibition. Something with a solid base that could hold a short section of track so l could place various locos and wagons- any ideas where is best?
  13. Unfortunately, my membership expired last year and l didn't renew.
  14. Thank you, have other locations. Omagh preferable
  15. Thank you Galteemore. Two beautiful shots !
  16. Hi guy, would anyone have a picture of GNR(I) PP Class No. 74 'Rostrevor' either photographed in Omagh or Enniskillen. It commanded the Omagh-Enniskillen run for nine years with Omagh crew Barney McGirr and fireman Peter Judge. I am always interested in unseen pictures of Omagh, as you would guess. Thank you
  17. Hopefully, not the five year old who wrote this poorly constructed sentence!
  18. Thank you for this. Yes, Mella was from Abbey Street, Omagh. Her surviving niece and family allowed me to photograph her medal and scan other personal railway momentos last year. She has been remembered in my book and recent talks on the tragedy.
  19. The significance of No. 170 'Errigal' was the fact that on the last day of regular operations at Omagh several steam locos were put into service for the day. 170 pulled the last train of the day.
  20. Jim, there were no designers involved!
  21. As someone who has championed Irish railways most of my life I too was absolutely disgusted at the railway silhouette used at Omagh. I have to pass this everyday and it is embarrassing to say the least. Two individuals tried to keep this project to themselves and this is what happened. I'm doing my best to gently persuade council to think again!
  22. Thank you so much for this 40 mile Post. It was very kind of you to take the time to do it. I was indeed able to open them, thanks.
  23. Would anyone have a copy of the timetable covering Derry to Belfast train movement for the period Nov 1950. I would appreciate it if you could urgently, photograph the pages covering this route please. Thank you so much if you can help. Tony
